Today's Sustainable Feast in the Garden of Eden

It is a great day in the Garden of Eden, and we are giving thanks for more than enough of everything in this abundant life of freedom!

We made a delicious feast for our full time volunteers on our indoor wood burning stove rather than on the rocket stoves of our sustainable outdoor kitchen. We stayed nice and toasty, had a fantastic meal, AND heated water for showers for super sustainable efficiency. As usual, there was more than enough food for everyone, and we are happy to share our abundance with you!

We made a delicious spread of all kinds of foods today! We had garden salad, egg salad, curried lentils, mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts with carrots and onions, chips and guacamole, and pickles and tortillas!

We started with a bright, fresh garden salad. We used a bed of greens and topped them with red onions, carrots, and yellow pepper. It was a colorful, raw delight!

It was a perfect day to clean out our fridge, so we reheated a dish of our hearty curried lentils. These have lots of spices including garam masala curry powder, cinnamon, and chili powder with lots of onions and garlic. They are rich and creamy and very wholesome!

For another main dish, we prepared a creamy egg salad from hard-boiled eggs, per the request of our sweet @noki-power. This is very easy and super delicious. We usually have lots of eggs on hand, and we made this salad by chopping hard boiled eggs and mixing them with mayonnaise, salt, pepper, and green onions.

We made a side dish with sautéed Brussels sprouts, onions, carrots, and garlic. The veggies were tender but still crisp with lots of delicious flavor!

We reheated a dish of leftover mashed potatoes. We usually have mashed potatoes at least once a week!

We served chips and guac on the side for anyone to add a little something crispy or creamy dipping to their dinner.

We set out a tray of pickles and tortilla wraps for anyone who wanted to make themselves little burrito or roll up sandwich out of the components we offered. The tortillas are also nice dipped in guac, and the pickles add a salty and sour flavor to the meal.

It was an interesting meal made out of dishes we have never prepared together before, but it was very satisfying and there was more than enough food for everyone!

Food is important, and we hope to inspire people to really take time to eat, enjoy it, and share it with someone you love. We also hope to inspire more and more sustainable practices in regards to food!

We do all of our cooking over fire, using wood that was otherwise destined to end up in a landfill! This is our indoor wood burning stove in action - it cooks our food, warms our communal space, and heats water for hot showers all at the same time!

Food is an honored & elemental part of our daily life in community. You can learn more about our unique, intimate, and super sustainable relationship with food here!
