Today's Sustainable Feast in the Garden of Eden

It is a lovely day in the Garden of Eden, and we are giving thanks for more than enough of everything in this abundant life of freedom!

We made a delicious feast for our full time volunteers on our indoor wood burning stove rather than on the rocket stoves of our sustainable outdoor kitchen. We stayed nice and toasty, had a fantastic meal, AND heated water for showers for super sustainable efficiency. As usual, there was more than enough food for everyone, and we are happy to share our abundance with you!

We made a nice spread with garden fresh salad, scalloped potatoes, buttery acorn squash, green bean casserole, and turkey with cranberry sauce!

It was delicious and filling feast with plenty of sustainable food for everyone!

We started with our daily salad. We made a bed of tender, crispy lettuce, and topped it with carrots, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, red onions, and broccoli.

Next, we made green bean casserole in a creamy garlic sauce! We cooked green beans with onions and mushrooms, and added a delicious sauce made with broth, lots of garlic, butter, and thickened with a sprinkling of flour. We topped the dish with slivered almonds.

We made creamy scalloped potatoes too! These are thinly sliced potatoes parboiled until tender. We layered them with a buttery cream sauce and sprinkled them with parmesan cheese and green onions.

For another side dish, we steamed acorn squash and topped it with butter and salt. Our children especially love this easy squash dish. It is slightly sweet, a beautiful color, and filled with nutritious vitamins and minerals!

For our meat eaters, we made roasted turkey and covered it in sweet and tangy cranberry sauce.

Quite a hearty spread for one and all!

We kept the food warm on the wood burning stove. Some dishes can be set directly on the stove top; others are more fragile and need indirect heat. For those dishes, we set them on top of a brick on the stove top.

Another fantastic, sustainable feast shared in good company and gratitude for an abundant life!

Food is important, and we hope to inspire people to really take time to eat, enjoy it, and share it with someone you love. We also hope to inspire more and more sustainable practices in regards to food!

We do all of our cooking over fire, using wood that was otherwise destined to end up in a landfill! This is our indoor wood burning stove in action - it cooks our food, warms our communal space, and heats water for hot showers all at the same time!

Food is an honored & elemental part of our daily life in community. You can learn more about our unique, intimate, and super sustainable relationship with food here!
