Today's Sustainable Feast in the Garden of Eden

It is a lovely day in the Garden of Eden, and we are giving thanks for more than enough of everything in this abundant life of freedom!

We made a delicious feast for our full time volunteers on our indoor wood burning stove rather than on the rocket stoves of our sustainable outdoor kitchen. We stayed nice and toasty, had a fantastic meal, AND heated water for showers for super sustainable efficiency. As usual, there was more than enough food for everyone, and we are happy to share our abundance with you!

We served a classic garden salad, brown rice pasta with light tomato sauce, stir fried mixed veggies with dark greens, and sausages for those who wanted some meat today.

We started by chopping a bunch of veggies for our quick and easy stir fry! We used onions, red bell peppers, yellow squash, eggplant, and some beautiful collard greens.

The bright colors indicate these yummy veggies are full of beneficial phytonutrients! Beta carotene turns into vitamin A in the body, and it gives veggies shades of yellow, orange, and red. Greens get their color from chlorophyll, a compound that gives plants the ability to absorb energy directly from sunlight. Interestingly, it has almost the exact same structure as hemoglobin in blood.

We gave these delicious and nutritious plants a quick spin around the cast iron skillet over fire, just enough to soften them up a bit.

This simple and easy dish turned out quite beautiful and flavorful - thank you, plants!

As another side, we offered brown rice spiral pasta. Some of us prefer to avoid grains. Whether it's from gluten or the pesticides sprayed on most grain crops, some of us simply don't like how we feel after eating traditional wheat. It's nice to have options like brown rice or quinoa pasta available so we can indulge in a little comfort food from time to time.

We tossed the brown rice pasta with a classic garlicky tomato sauce and offered Parmesan cheese to sprinkle on top for our cheese lovers.

Today's salad featured crunchy cucumbers, bright yellow, orange, and red bell peppers, and onions tossed in a light vinaigrette over crispy garden greens.

We offered hearty Italian sausages alongside our gorgeous plants for our carnivores too!

Food is important, and we hope to inspire people to really take time to eat, enjoy it, and share it with someone you love. We also hope to inspire more and more sustainable practices in regards to food!

We do all of our cooking over fire, using wood that was otherwise destined to end up in a landfill! This is our indoor wood burning stove in action - it cooks our food, warms our communal space, and heats water for hot showers all at the same time!

Food is an honored & elemental part of our daily life in community. You can learn more about our unique, intimate, and super sustainable relationship with food here!
