Could it not also be something that the US military wants to believe, based on intel, and that the Iranians are taking advantage of? My theory is more of a blind guess. I don’t know if faking deaths is useful or even common, it was just an example I came up with because I’m extremely uncertain about the truth of any claim of the US to have killed someone in an airstrike. Seems to me that someone is always getting killed in an airstrike when some kind of PR is needed.
