Heute stelle ich das Projekt theSkyNet POGS vor, ein Projekt aus der Astronomie.

Today iam going to put the spotlight on theSkyNet POGS, an astronomical project.

Simulation von Daten für die Wissenschaft

theSkyNet POGS

Das Projekt theSkyNet POGS ist ein Projekt aus der Astronomie und wird vom ICRAR, dem International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research, einem Zusammenschluß der Universitäten Curtin und der Universität des westlichen Australiens, durchgeführt.
Gegenstand der Forschung ist die Kartografierung des näheren Universums. Durch Kombination von Daten des GALEX, Pan-STARRS1 und WISE wird es möglich einen multispektralen Atlas zu erstellen, von UV über optisch bis zu Infrarot. Im Bild unten sind die verschiedenen Wellenlängen dargestellt.
Es erfordert eine enorme Prozessorleistung jeden einzelnen Pixel zu berechnen. Aus diesem Grund werden diese Daten über das BOINC Netzwerk an freiwillige Helfer gesendet um dort berechnet und an das Team zurückgesendet zu werden.
Innerhalb des Projektes werden eine große Anzahl an physikalischen Parametern berechnet, wie z.B. die Entstehungsrate von Sternen, die Lichtabschwächung durch Staub oder die stellare Galaxienmasse.

theSkyNet POGS

The project theSkyNet POGS is a project out of the astronomical science and is hosted by the ICRAR, the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research, a joint venture of Curtin University and the University of Western Australia.
The research centers around the task to build up a Map of the nearby Universe in different wavelenghts. By combining the data of GALEX, Pan-STARRS1 and WISE the project will be able to have this atlas in UV, optical and IR wavelenghts.In the picture below the different wavelenghts are shown.
It takes a lot of computational power to calculate every pixel, therefore this workunits are shared through the BOINC network, getting calculated and sent back to the team.
A lot of physical parameters are calculated within this project, like star formation rate, stellar mass of the galaxy, dust attenuation, and total dust mass of a galaxy.

Status des Projekts

Das Projekt läuft bereits seit mehreren Jahren und veröffentlicht schon berechnete Galaxien in einer zentralen Übersicht, diese ist hier zu finden.
Anfang des Jahres 2017 wurde ein Kleinplanet innerhalb des Sonnensystems vom ICRAR nach seinem Gründer benannt. Dieser Kleinstplanet heißt seither Bernardbowen, er befindet sich im Asteroidengürtel zwischen Mars und Jupiter und hat eine Umlaufzeit um die Sonne von 3,26 Jahren. Status of the project

The project is up and running since a few years already, calculated galaxies are published in a central roster which can be found here.
In the beginning of 2017 a minor planet within the solar system has been named after the founder of the ICRAR. From this moment in time this minor planet is called Bernardbowen, it is located in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter and takes 3.26 years to orbit the sun.
