Skynet Sourcefinder - whitelisted

Sourcefinder is a distributed computing project that aims to provide a means to test the effectiveness of various astronomical sourcefinding applications and is designed to process data that contain radio sources to identify the location of these sources. Currently two different sourcefinding applications are being tested: Duchamp and SoFiA. The Sourcefinder project is run as part of the wider theSkyNet project.

To send work-units to computers over the internet, Sourcefinder is using the BOINC platform. At present, 251 active members are participating in the project.

From tomorrow, Sourcefinder will be also included in the Gridcoin network as 26th whitelisted project. Gridcoin rewards BOINC users in paying them for their computing efforts, which can help to offset a part of the costs like electricity bills. Team Gridcoin has currently 35 active members in this project and they will now start earning GRC.

Sourcefinder is a CPU-only project and runs on systems with Windows, Linux and Mac OS. To execute work-units, you do need to have VM (Virtualbox) installed as well.

Happy BOINCing!
