There are two groups of people who drink apple cider vinegar (ACV) every day and think that it is the 'bees knees.' And then there are people who would don't think of it or want to drink vinegar. I belong to the second group! I have thought of it but really don't like the taste!
But for some reason this morning I drank some ACV in water and surprisingly it was not such a bad culinary experience after all. Maybe my changed attitude toward drinking vinegar was more due to the reading of an article, "9 Natural Remedies for an Upset Stomach" in the Chopra Centred Lifestyle Newsletter that had been sitting in my inbox for a month.

I liked learning that ACV was a neutraliser to one's body and helped with nausea, bloating and alleviated heartburn. Obviously good reasons to drink this stuff, alkaline is most important in the body. So I went online to find out more about ACV and while I read that it assists digestion, helps lower blood sugar levels is good for heart health, helps with the lowering of cholesterol and even helps reduce the fat in your body. This sounded so amazing that I began to berate myself for not joining the group of apple cider vinegar drinkers long ago.
But then I read more, there is always a downside. I found out that if vinegar is not diluted enough in water, the acidic component of it can eat away at your tooth enamel and large amounts of vinegar can harm the liver, kidneys and is a source of irritation to the central nervous system. So it is definitely not sensible to get too carried away drinking copious amounts of ACV.
Like everything, moderation is the key. Drinking a tablespoon in water is very good for you, but not loads of it and not a good idea to drink it neat in a shot glass.
So is ACV for me?
While I like the benefits of ACV I am thinking that I am not a natural with drinking it. Perhaps I can find some tablets and take those instead. And I can also pour balsamic vinegar over my green salads to help my body. This has to have a beneficial effect.
