I Hate Running. Why not Signup for a Half-Marathon!?

Aloha steemit peeps! 🤙

It's day 2 of my 100 day challenge and I have designated my Thursdays posts to be on health and or fitness.

So, I recently moved part-time to Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. If you didn't know, this is where the Ironman World Championship takes place every year in early October. These ridiculously in shape dudes and dudettes swim 2.4-miles (3.86 kms), bike 112-miles (180.25 km) and run 26.22-miles (42.20 km). 😲

This year's Ironman winner, Patrick Lange, broke the course record and did the whole thing in 8:01:40. Holy crap! (Source: Ironman.com)

I won't be entering the ironman anytime soon. However, seeing the ironmen and women running around here inspired me to want to be in better shape.

Combine that with a recent ad I saw on Facebook for the Hapalua, a half-marathon taking place on the island of Oahu in April.

In some kind of late night insanity, I decided to sign up.

Shoot, if these guys and gals (some even in their 70s) can do something as crazy as an Ironman, I can run a half-marathon. I'm still in my 30s, in the prime of my life. No problem, right?

Right? Gulp...

What the hell was I thinking. It's about 5 1/2 months away from the Hapalua and I can currently barely run a mile. So, I have a long way to go.

Let's see where this takes me. Next week, I will share with you an 8 week incremental running plan I found some info on that should get me up to comfortably running the first two miles.

Until tomorrow, mahalo! Got to run... :)
