Lemon balm is a beautiful aromatic relative of mint with tons of super powers! We have huge patches of lush lemon balm in our garden this year. It's a hardy plant that needs very little maintenance, and bees really love it (hence its alternate name, bee balm). Given the declining bee population, it's great to plant some things that help out our little winged friends...because if the bees die, we all die too.
Lemon balm is well known for its ability to relieve stress, but it's also a superb anti-viral! New research suggests compounds in lemon balm have the capacity to eradicate the herpes virus and reduce the severity of outbreaks.
We add it to our food & activated water, dry it for tea, and are making some potent tinctures as well to utilize its healthful benefits. It is also a great addition to homemade beauty products for its skin-soothing benefits.
