Hello everyone and happy Monday Hope we all had a nice weekend? Well, Larry on his part enjoyed the weekend as he rested very well and eager to resume his duties with vigour. To begin his week, Larry he decides, as it is now customary, to have a look at today in #history.

Gentlemen, Larry begins his look at today in history from Europe, precisely Spain. Larry finds out that a well-planned insurrection by Nationalist rebels against the Republican government of Spain began on this day in 1936, igniting a violent civil war that lasted until 1939, when the Nationalists and Francisco Franco took power.

Larry then shifts his attention to the world of aviation. He finds out that on this day in 2014, all 298 passengers and crew members of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 perished when it crashed in separatist-controlled territory in Ukraine. A Dutch investigation eventually revealed that the plane had been shot down by a Russian-made surface-to-air missile.

Larry then moved over to world organizations. He finds out that on this day in 1998, The United Nations {UN} completed the statute (also known as the Rome statute) establishing the International Criminal Court [ICC] which began sittings four years later. The ICC is located at The Hague, Netherlands. Its core mandate is to investigate, prosecute, and try individuals accused of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity and to impose prison sentences upon individuals who are found guilty of such crimes.

Larry moves back to the world of aviation where he finds out that on this day in 1996, TWA Flight 800 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off the shore of Long Island, killing all 230 persons on board. A US official investigation determined that a mixture of fuel and air ignited accidently within a fuel tank, however some claim the airliner was shot down by a missile.

Larry's attention was drawn to the world of movies and entertainment. He finds out that on this day in 1955, Disneyland, an amusement park with attractions centered on Walt Disney and the Disney Company, established in Anaheim, California, USA.

Moreso, Larry finds out that on this day in 1945, Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill, and Harry S. Truman met at the Potsdam Conference, the last Allied summit conference of World War II.

Today's historical records appeared to have made Larry sober. He looked for a cheering event and fortunately one came out. Gentlemen, Larry finds out that Angela Merkel, (née Angela Dorothea Kasner) was born on this day in 1954 in Hamburg, West Germany). Angela Merkel served as chancellor of Germany from 2005 to 2021. She was therefore the first woman to hold that office and the second longest-serving chancellor in German history. What a record. Happy birthday 🎂 to her.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, and as he ends same on a cheering note Larry picks up his parcels and begins his day's activities.
