Hello everyone. It's thursday already. The Women's World Cup 2023 co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia begins today. Larry is presently watching the opening game between co-host New Zealand vs. Norway. Hope you love soccer too? And I hope you will also watch the matches just like Larry. It may interest you to know that New Zealand had just beaten Norway by a lone goal. Up next is the second co-host team Australia facing Republic of Ireland. Will they win just like their sisters (New Zealand) had done few minutes ago? The match kicks off by 11:00AM WAT. Now that the first game is over, Larry takes a break to have a look at today in #history.
Larry begins his look at today in history from the world of space exploration. He finds out that on this day in 1969, the Eagle lunar landing module carrying the United States of America's astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin ( original name: Edwin Eugene Aldrin, Jr.) landed on the Moon, and Armstrong became the first person to step foot on its surface several hours later.
Still with space exploration, Larry finds out that on this day in 1976, The Viking 1 lander touched down at Chryse Planitia on Mars. Chryse Planitia is the flat lowland region on Mars' northern hemisphere while Viking 1 is one of the two spacecraft robots launched by the US NASA for her extended study of the planet Mars.
Larry then moved over to Russia. He finds out that on this day in 1917, following the July Days, Prince Georgy Yevgenyevich Lvov resigned as Prime Minister of Russia's Provisional Government. The 'July Days' is a period in the Russian Revolution spanning from July 16–20, during which workers and soldiers of Petrograd staged armed demonstrations against the Provisional Government which effectively led to the formation of a new provisional government.
From Russia, Larry switches his attention to movies and entertainment where he finds out that on this day in 1973, Bruce Lee the American-born film actor who was renowned for his martial arts prowess and who helped popularize martial arts movies in the 1970s died in Hong Kong.
Still in the entertainment industry, Larry finds out that on this day in 1947, Carlos Santana, a Mexican-born American musician whose popular music blended rock, jazz, blues, and Afro-Cuban rhythms with a Latin flavour was born in Autlán de Navarro, Mexico. Happy birthday to him.
Finally, Larry decides to round off his look at today in #history from a look at an event from the North America. He finds out that on this day in 1966, Enrique Peña Nieto, a Mexican politician of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (Partido Revolucionario Institucional; PRI) who also was the president of Mexico from 2012–2018 was born in Atlacomulco, Mexico.
Having seen all these pieces of historical events, switches his attention back to the ongoing women's world cup match between the Aussie's ladies and the Republic of Ireland.
