Larry Is Alive #127 August 20, 2023: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone. Welcome to Sunday the twentieth day of the month of August 2023. Gentlemen, the Women's World Cup 2023 co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia has finally come.and gone. The co-host Australia played against Sweden in the third place match and lost (2-1). Sweden got the bronze medal while the big one, the finals played between Spain vs England went to the Spaniards as they defeated England by a lone goal. Congratulations 👏 🎉 to the Spanish ladies for lifting the trophy. Larry enjoyed both the third place match and the finals. They were all thrilling encounters. Let's look forward to tht next edition. I know the USA team will come back stronger. Larry then turns his attention to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from the USA. He finds out on that Viking 1, a robotic US spacecraft designed to investigate the surface of Mars, was launched on this day in 1975 and landed nearly a year later on Chryse Planitia, a flat lowland region in the planet's northern hemisphere.

From the USA, Larry moves over to Czechoslovakia. He finds out that on this day in 1968, to put an end to the Prague Spring, the Warsaw Pact countries—with the exception of Romania and Albania—led by the Soviet Union invaded Czechoslovakia.

The Prague spring refers to a brief era of political and economic liberalization in Czechoslovakia which was overseen by Alexander Dubekfrom January 1968 to the Soviet invasion on August 20, 1968, which effectively put an end to the process.

From Czechoslovakia, Larry goes over to India. He finds out that on this day in 2014, B.K.S. Iyengar, whose full name is Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar, an Indian instructor who contributed to the Westernization of Yoga (an Indian philosophical system), passed away at the age of 95 in Pune, Maharashtra.

From India, Larry moves over to Mexico. He finds out that on this day in 1940, Lev Davidovich Bronshtein, better known as Leon Trotsky was assassinated by a Stalinist agent in Coyoacán, Mexico.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in history from Africa. He finds out that on this day in 1960, Senegal announced its full independence by leaving the Mali Federation.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
