Hello everyone. Welcome to Wednesday the twentieth day of the month of September 2023. Gentlemen, Larry enjoys cool morning breeze with clear weather. He sips his coffee ☕ to warm himself ahead today's morning deliveries. But before Larry commences his deliveries for the day, he turns his attention to have a look at today in #history.
Larry begins his look at today in history from France. He finds out that on this day in 1792, The French Legislative Assembly was replaced by the National Convention, marking the formal commencement of the First Republic.
From France, Larry moves over to Puerto Rico. He finds out that on this day in 2017, Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, causing more than $90 billion in damages and nearly 3,000 deaths, according to government estimates.
From Puerto Rico, Larry moves back to Italy. He finds out that on this day in 1870, Italian troops conquered Rome, which eventually resulted in the city being incorporated into the Kingdom of Italy and the papal ruling authority being restricted to the Vatican and a small area around it.
From Italy, Larry moves over to Africa. He finds out that on this day in 1886, the South African city of Johannesburg was founded.
From Italy, Larry moves over to Siam (Thailand). He finds out that on this day in 1853, Chulalongkorn, [also called Phrachunlachomklao], Siam's king who avoided colonial dominance and instituted far-reaching reforms was born in Bangkok, Siam [now Thailand].
Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in history from Nigeria. He finds out that on this day in 1943, Gen. Sani Abacha, a Nigerian military leader, who served as Nigeria's Head of State between 1993 to 1998 was born in Kano, Nigeria.
Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
