Hello everyone. It is the second working day of the week. Larry has been enjoying excellent weather these two days of work. It appears the rains are on break. It is still October. Rains hasn't gone away, !LOL. Larry enjys his warm coffee ☕, turns around and remember s that he hasn't looked at today in #history.
Larry begins his look at today in history from the USA He finds out that on this day in 1845, historian, educator, and secretary of the navy George Bancroft established the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, to better the then-unsatisfactory ways of training midshipmen.
From the USA, Larry goes to the Netherlands. He finds out that on this day in 2010, The Netherlands Antilles, a former autonomous part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands comprised of five Caribbean Sea islands, was officially disbanded.
From the Netherlands, Larry goes to Fiji. He finds out that on this day in 1970, Fiji gained her independence from Great Britain. Happy independence anniversary to them.
From Fiji, Larry moves over to China. He finds out that on this day in 1911, a handful of revolutionaries started an uprising in Wuchang, China, which many see as the formal start of the Chinese Revolution, a nationalist democratic revolt that overturned the Qing monarchy.
From China, Larry goes to Nigeria. He finds out that on this day in 1941, Ken Saro-Wiwa, whose full name is Kenule Beeson Saro-Wiwa, a Nigerian writer and activist, who spoke out strongly against the Nigerian military administration and the Anglo-Dutch petroleum firm Royal Dutch/Shell for causing environmental devastation to the land of the Ogoni people in his native home Rivers state was born in Bori, near Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in history from the world of astronomy. He finds out that on this day in 1846, English astronomer William Lassell discovered Triton, the largest satellite of the planet Neptune. His discovery of Triton occured only a few weeks after the discovery of Neptune itself.
Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry sios his last drop of coffee ☕ and zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
