Larry Is Alive #179 November 02, 2023: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for thursday the 2nd day of November, 2023. Manchester United had a night to forget as they were well beaten by another more united team from the Tyneside.... Newcastle United (0-3). By that heavy defeat, Man United have exited the carabao cup which they are even the defending champions. Too bad for Man United.

After the match, Larry turns his attention to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from the USA. He finds out that on this day in 1611, North Dakota was admitted to the union as the 39th U.S. state and South Dakota as the 40th.

From the USA, Larry goes to Ethiopia. He finds out that on this day in 1930, Tafari Makonnen was crowned as the Emperor of Ethiopia.and he took the name name Haile Selassie.

From Ethiopia, Larry goes to England. He finds out that on this day in 1922, the British Broadcasting Corporation [BBC] officially flagged off its first television channel, which was also the world's first regular TV service.

From England, Larry goes to the world of aviation. He finds out that on this day in 1947, Howard Hughes, an American aviator and filmmaker, piloted the Spruce Goose, an eight-engine wooden flying boat designed to transport 750 passengers, on its only flight—one mile.

From the world of aviation, Larry goes to Literature. He finds out that on this day in 1950, George Bernard Shaw, an Irish playwright who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1925, died at the age of 94 in Ayot St. Lawrence, Hertfordshire, England.

From the world of literature, Larry goes to Saudi Arabia. He finds out that on this day in 1994, King Saud of Saudi Arabia was deposed; with his brother Faisal succeeding him.

From the world of literature, Larry goes back to the USA. He finds out that on this day in 1983 President Ronald Reagan of the United States signed the legislation making the third Monday of January a national holiday in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today from the world of computers and ICT. He finds out that on this day in 1988, a computer science student called Robert Morris released the first computer worm over the Internet; intended as an experiment, it brought 6,000 computers (one-tenth of the Internet) to a halt.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
