Por fin tengo tiempo para sentarme y escribir este post que tal vez algunos de ustedes han estado esperando. Hay muchas cosas que les quiero compartir. En general son cosas buenas, pero hubo altibajos. Fue una experiencia que sin duda quedará para siempre grabada en mi mente y corazón.
Como muchos saben, el HiveFest se llevó a hace algunos días en Rosarito, Baja California México. Para mi fue una gran noticia que desde el inicio me llenó de emoción. En un inicio iba a ser en noviembre, pero se movió para septiembre. Esto complicó un poco las cosas ya que Eddito iba a nacer en esas fechas y posiblemente no iba a poder ir. Los que han leído mis posts saben la historia.
Cuando el HiveFest iba iniciando, pude hacer un par de posts, pero luego todo se volvió una locura y no pude publicar más. A penas podía votar los posts que se nominaban en aliento y con mucho esfuerzo filtrar y curar videos en 3Speak. Creo que el evento superó mis expectativas, desde un incio yo sabía que no iba de vacaciones, pero fue mucho más pesado de lo que me imaginaba.
Finally, I have time to sit down and write this post that maybe some of you have been waiting for. There are many things that I want to share. They are generally good things, but there were ups and downs. It was an experience that will forever be engraved in my mind and heart.
As many know, HiveFest occurred a few days ago in Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico. It was great news that filled me with excitement from the beginning. Initially, it was supposed to be in November, but it got moved to September. This complicated things a bit because Eddito would be born around those dates, and I might not have been able to go. Those who have read my posts know the story.
When HiveFest started, I could make a couple of posts, but then everything became chaotic, and I couldn't publish more. I could barely vote for the posts nominated for encouragement and, with great effort, filter and curate videos on 3Speak. I think the event exceeded my expectations. I knew I wasn't going on vacation from the beginning, but it was much more demanding than I had imagined.

Participar en la organización del HiveFest tuvo sus ventajas y desventajas. Por un lado todos vieron que ayudé y creo que todos supieron quien era y lo importante de mi rol en el evento. Pero por otro lado no pude hacer networking como quería y no pude disfrutar de las presentaciones. Tenía que comer rápido para poder llegar a preparar lo que seguía y dormí poco mal.
Es por eso que casi no me vieron en escena. Que no grabé videos, que no di una presentación o participé en los paneles. Me quedé con muchas ganas de poder hablar más sobre Hive con personas que tienen mucha más experiencia que yo. Y parte de esto es mi culpa, el estrés no me dejó accionar y no me permitió disfrutar más de todo.
Aprendí mucho de esta experiencia. He hecho cosas difíciles en mi vida, he tenido retos grandes, pero este sin duda lo puedo poner en los primeros lugares. Tuve que salir de mi zona de confort muchas veces. Tuve que hacer el esfuerzo para comunicarme claramente, para buscar soluciones en tiempo real a problemas que en el momento parecían imposibles de resolver. Agradezco a Matt y a Dan por la paciencia y por confiar en mi.
"Where is Eddie Espino?"
Participating in the organization of HiveFest had its advantages and disadvantages. On one hand, everyone saw that I helped, and I think everyone knew who I was and the importance of my role in the event. But on the other hand, I couldn't network as I wanted to, and I couldn't enjoy the presentations. I had to eat quickly to be able to get ready for what came next, and I slept very little.
That's why you hardly saw me on stage. I didn't record videos, give a presentation, or participate in the panels. I was left wanting to talk more about Hive with people who have much more experience than me. And part of this is my fault; stress prevented me from taking action and didn't allow me to enjoy everything more.
I learned a lot from this experience. I've done difficult things in my life and faced significant challenges, but this one, without a doubt, ranks among the top. I had to step out of my comfort zone many times. I had to make an effort to communicate clearly to find real-time solutions to problems that seemed impossible to solve at the time. I appreciate Matt and Dan for their patience and for trusting in me.
¿Lo volverías a hacer?
En este momento les diría que no, pero creo que para una próxima ocasión estaríamos mejor preparados y no cometaríamos tantos errores. Hay cuatro cosas que debo evitar, y en el HiveFest las hice todas. Estas cosas son: Tomar alcohol, desvelarme, estresarme y tener emociones fuertes. Debo evitar esto por problemas de salud mental que tengo. Traté de no pensar mucho en eso y también me tomé mis medicamentos de la mejor manera posible. Hasta el momento no he tenido consecuencias por esto y ya estoy mucho más tranquilo. Mi última crisis fue hace más de 14 años y siento que por todo lo que me he cuidado, puedo seguir adelante sin problemas. No tengo tiempo de tener una crisis (o dinero) en este momento.
El HiveFest no fue perfecto, hubo cosas que no salieron bien, pero que pudieron salir peor. Hubo poblemas de audio en la transmisión, problemas con las presentaciones, problemas de internet. Fue todo un reto. No era parte de lo que iba a hacer, pero estuve ayudando en la parte técnica con el equipo de audio, video y streaming. Al final nos hicimos amigos y pasé todas las presentaciones con ellos, en el backstage. Por lo mismo no pude disfrutarlas como me hubiera gustado. Pero me siento feliz de que pude colaborar en resolver problemas y en hacer que la transmisión y grabación fueran lo mejor posible, aún con todas las fallas que se presentaron. Pudo haber sido peor.
Would you do it again?
I would say no, but we will be better prepared for the next occasion and won't make as many mistakes. There are four things I need to avoid, and I did all of them at HiveFest. These things are: drinking alcohol, staying up late, getting stressed, and experiencing strong emotions. I need to avoid these due to the mental health issues I have. I tried not to dwell on it too much and took my medication as best as possible. So far, I haven't had any consequences, and I am much calmer now. My last crisis was over 14 years ago, and I feel that with all the care I've taken, I can continue without any problems. I don't have time (or money) for a crisis right now.
HiveFest wasn't perfect; some things didn't go well but could have been worse. There were audio issues in the transmission, problems with presentations, and internet problems. It was quite a challenge. It wasn't part of what I was originally going to do, but I ended up helping with the technical aspects of the audio, video, and streaming team. Ultimately, we became friends, and I spent all the presentations with them backstage. Because of that, I couldn't enjoy them as much as I would have liked. But I'm happy that I could collaborate in solving problems and making the transmission and recording as good as possible despite all the issues that arose. It could have been worse.

No se si lo sepan, pero normalmente el HiveFest es organizado por @roelandp, uno de los testigos top 20 en Hive. Este año el está pasando por varios retos, está construyendo una casa y va a tener un hijo pronto. Si no fuera porque Matt (@starkerz) y Dan (@theycallmedan) tomaran la iniciativa, no hubiera habido HiveFest este año. Aún así Roeland ayudó mucho con el sitio web, la app, publicaciones y más.

I don't know if you are aware, but normally, HiveFest is organized by @roelandp, one of the top 20 witnesses on Hive. This year, he is facing several challenges, building a house, and will soon have a child. If it weren't for Matt (@starkerz) and Dan (@theycallmedan) taking the initiative, there wouldn't have been HiveFest this year. Nevertheless, Roeland helped a lot with the website, the app, posts, and more.
Además de Matt y Dan, algunos de los organizadores principales fueron César (@evilpotatoes), quien es un amigo muy cercano a Dan que también vive en Rosarito desde hace varios años. Cesar le ayudó a Matt y a Dan para las primeras negociaciones, con el hotel y restaurantes. Gabby (@gabbygolden), la esposa de Dan. Gabby fue quien le puso color y detalles al HiveFest. Hizo que todo fuera más bonito y que se viera y sintiera ese espíritu mexicano en todo. Otra persona que no puedo dejar de mencionar es Rubén (@rubenglz24) el sobrino de Gabby. El fue alguien crucial en todo esto, además de que ganó el torneo de poker.
Todo fue gracias a un gran equipo. En mi caso yo me encargué principalmente de los pagos, de reservar habitaciones. Ayudé un poco con la logística de transporte, aunque eso lo hizo principalmente Matt. Como dije, me tocó resolver problemas a tiempo real y tomar decisiones para que las cosas no se complicaran más. Hasta el momento mi párpado se mueve solo todavía.
Hubo varios voluntarios que ayudaron con la logística y otras áreas. En la parte de fotografia y video, tuvimos a Manu (@manuphotos) y a Raf (@mynewlife) respectivamente. Pero ellos no solo ayudaron en esto. También ayudaron a mover todos lso banners, a armarlos y desarmarlos y a coordinar otras cosas de logística. Otro gran Hiver que ayudó en mucho fue NEO (@neopch). El estuvo a cargo de varios streams donde hay contenido de inmenso valor. También en todo esto ayudó Crim (@crimsonclad).
El gran amigo @detlev ayudó en la moderación del evento y también organizó el #BeerSaturday que estuvo genial. @jza ayudó a conectar con la comunidad cripto de Tijuana y Rosarito, también ayudó en la logística del evento y otras cosas. No puedo dejar de mencionar al gran @gr33nm4ster, quien se rifó demasiado en muchos sentidos. Gr33n fue uno de los ganadores del boleto y con eso tenía cubierto el hospedaje y el boleto del HiveFest, el no debería de haber sido voluntario, pero lo fue y lo hizo genial. No se quejó, siempre preguntaba qué tenía que hacer y siempre con una sonrisa o un comentario gracioso. Gr33n representa lo que es ser un gran Hiver, alguien que hace comunidad, que sabe hacer contactos y que cae muy bien. Espero pronto poder ir a verlo a Mérida.
Por cierto Gr33n quedó en segundo lugar del torneo de poker, pero podría decir que fue el MVP (Most Vergas Player), ya que eliminó de manera directa no solo a Khal de LeoFinance, también a @markegiles de Dlux, a Dan (Theycallmedan) y al otro Dan (Blocktrades). Además creo que eliminó a otros más, lo chistoso es que Gr33n no sabía jugar bien esta versión de Poker, y menos en inglés. Le tuvieron que estar enseñando y regañandolo. Esto para mi fue uno de los momentos más genial del HiveFest.
Besides Matt and Dan, some key organizers were César (@evilpotatoes), a close friend of Dan who has been living in Rosarito for several years. Cesar helped Matt and Dan with the initial negotiations with the hotels and restaurants. Gabby (@gabbygolden), Dan's wife, also played a significant role. Gabby added color and details to HiveFest, making everything more beautiful and imbuing it with that Mexican spirit. She also helped coordinate many things like designs, restaurants, and hotels. Another person I can't fail to mention is Rubén (@rubenglz24), Gabby's nephew. He was crucial to all of this and even won the poker tournament.
Everything was thanks to a great team. In my case, I was mainly responsible for payments and booking rooms. I helped a bit with transportation logistics, although Matt primarily handled that. As I mentioned, I had to solve real-time problems and make decisions to prevent things from getting more complicated. So far, my eyelid still twitches on its own.
Several volunteers helped with logistics and other areas. We had Manu (@manuphotos) and Raf (@mynewlife) in photography and video, respectively. But they didn't just help with that; they also assisted in moving all the banners, setting them up and taking them down, and coordinating other logistical matters. Another great Hiver who contributed significantly was NEO (@neopch). He was in charge of several streams with immensely valuable content. Crim (@crimsonclad) also assisted with all of this.
The great friend @detlev helped with event moderation and organized the #BeerSaturday, which was fantastic. @jza helped connect with the crypto community in Tijuana and Rosarito, assisting with event logistics and other tasks. I can't forget to mention the amazing @gr33nm4ster, who went above and beyond in many ways. Gr33n was one of the ticket winners and had accommodation and HiveFest tickets covered, so he didn't have to be a volunteer, but he did, and he did it wonderfully. He never complained, always asked what needed to be done, and always had a smile or a funny comment. Gr33n represents what it means to be a great Hiver who builds community, makes connections, and is very likable. I hope to visit him in Merida soon.
By the way, Gr33n came in second place in the poker tournament. Still, I could say he was the MVP (Most Valuable Player) because he directly eliminated not only Khal from LeoFinance but also @markegiles from Dlux, Dan (Theycallmedan), and the other Dan (Blocktrades). He probably eliminated others as well. What's funny is that Gr33n didn't know how to play this version of poker well, especially in English. They had to teach him and scold him. This, for me, was one of the most fantastic moments of HiveFest.

Hubo muchos otros Hivers que ayudaron de manera desinteresada y que contribuyeron a que las cosas salieran lo mejor posible. Uno de ellos fue Eric (@anomadsoul) quien también ayudó mucho en la organización del evento. Es alguien con mucha experiencia en Hive y con mucha visión. Fue genial conocerlo en persona.
Y si se preguntan si por todo esto recibí o recibimos un pago, pues no fue así. Solo hubo una ayuda simbólica de parte de Matt y Dan. Lo que sí es que me pagaron lo de mis gastos, que no fueron pocos. Lo malo es que por no poder hacer suficiente networking y por no poder presentar los avances de mis proyectos personales, no pude lograr ni un solo voto al testigo de @aliento. Eso me tiene un poco desmotivado, pero se que en el futuro se podrá conseguir mayor apoyo.
Many other Hivers selflessly helped and made things go as smoothly as possible. One of them was Eric (@anomadsoul), who also played a significant role in organizing the event. He is someone with a lot of experience in Hive and great vision. It was fantastic to meet him in person.
And if you're wondering whether I received or we received any payment for all of this, well, that wasn't the case. There was only symbolic support from Matt and Dan. What they did pay for were my expenses, which were not insignificant. The downside is that due to not being able to do enough networking and not being able to present the progress of my projects, I couldn't secure a single vote for the @aliento witness. That has left me a bit demotivated, but I know we can seek greater support in the future.
Y ahora ¿qué sigue?
Pues regresar a casa no significa descansar. Tengo la responsabilidad de mi bebé y quiero pasar el mayor tiempo posible con el, pero al mismo tiempo seguir construyendo para mejorar nuestra situación y salir adelante. Eddito y Gris son mi motivación principal y mi motor. Este viaje me abrió mucho los ojos. Me di cuenta que estoy usando mal mi tiempo en algunos aspectos, que hay cosas que se pueden automatizar o hacer de manera ma´s eficiente. Me di cuenta que debo de mejorar mis habilidades, que debo de aprender cosas nuevas y que debo contribuir más a Hive con cosas técnicas y sociales.
Fue un buen momento para que muchos de México nos reunieramos y hablaramos del fututo de Hive México, que honestamente he abandonado un poco. Estamos organizándonos para reactivarse y aunque no fue al HiveFest, el último día me reuní con @ritch, que es el otro fundador que queda de Hive México. Los otros dos abandonaron el proyecto hace un tiempo. Así que nos reactivaremos, esperen un anuncio pronto de la cuenta de @hivemexico.
And now, what's next?
Well, going back home doesn't mean resting. I am responsible for my baby and want to spend as much time with him as possible. At the same time, I want to continue building to improve our situation and move forward. Eddito and Gris are my main motivation and driving force. This journey opened my eyes a lot. I realized that I'm not using my time well in some aspects and that there are things that can be automated or done more efficiently. I realized that I need to improve my skills, learn new things, and contribute more to Hive in technical and social aspects.
It was a good moment for many of us from Mexico to come together and discuss Hive Mexico's future, which I have neglected a bit. We are organizing to revive it, and even though I didn't attend HiveFest, on the last day, I met with @ritch, the other remaining founder of Hive Mexico. The other two founders left the project some time ago. So, we will reactivate it and expect an announcement soon from the @hivemexico account.
Algo muy genial que se logró en este HiveFest fue que José Rodríguez (@josepimpo) asistiera al evento. Personalmente no soy un gran vendedor, es una de las cosas que tengo que mejorar. Pero le pasé el contacto a Matt y el logró invitarlo y que viniera. Lo pude conocer en persona y platicar con el sobre varios temas. Hay muy buenos planes de colaboración con el. José es una de las personas más influyentes del mundo cripto. El es director de Blockchain Land y también tiene muy buenas conexiones en el mundo cripto. Esto nos ayudará mucho a crecer la comunidad de Hive en México y en otras partes de LATAM. Y bueno, todo esto también es gracias a @shadowmyst, quien fue quien me presentó a José Pimpo hace más de tres años, cuando Hive iniciaba.
Something cool achieved at this HiveFest was having José Rodríguez (@josepimpo) attend the event. I'm not a great salesperson, and it's one of the things I need to improve. But I shared the contact with Matt, and he managed to invite him to join HiveFest. I got to meet him in person and have discussions on various topics. There are some great collaboration plans with him. José is one of the most influential people in the crypto world. He is the director of Blockchain Land and has excellent connections in the crypto space. This will greatly help us grow the Hive community in Mexico and other parts of LATAM. And well, all of this is also thanks to @shadowmyst, who introduced me to José Pimpo more than three years ago when Hive was starting.
Conclusión
Por último quiero mencionar que todo este evento tuvo emociones en las que estuve muy sensible. El domingo en la noche fue un momento de calma porque ya habían pasado las presentaciones, que creo que fue de lo más estresante. Fuimos a una cena a un hotel donde se casaron Dan y Gabby y ese momento me llenó de emoción porque extrañaba mucho a Gris y a mi bebé. Por un momento fue complicado guardar las lágrimas.
Otro momento donde estuve muy sensible, fue durante la premier de la película Freechain. Ese momento creo que fue muy sensible y especial para todos. Además se sumó que hubo un gran estrés ya que el salón donde fue la premier tenía problemas en la instalación eléctrica. Pero se pudo resolver porque los del audio y video trajeron una planta de luz. Sin eso, la premier hubiera sido un fracaso total.
La película me gustó mucho, creo que a la mayoría de los Hivers les va a gustar. Ya quiero que la estrenen en alguna plataforma de streaming para que la puedan ver.
Bueno, esta es mi experiencia. Así es como vivi el HiveFest. Espero poder asistir al próximo, pero como invitado, no como anfitrión. Saludos a todos, los leo en los comentarios.
In conclusion,
I want to mention that this whole event brought emotions that made me quite sensitive. Sunday night was a moment of calm because the presentations were over, which I believe was one of the most stressful aspects. We went to dinner at a hotel where Dan and Gabby got married, and that moment filled me with emotion because I missed Gris and my baby so much. For a moment, it was challenging to hold back tears.
Another moment I was very sensitive to was during the premiere of the movie Freechain. I think that moment was very emotional and special for everyone. Furthermore, there was a lot of stress because the venue where the premiere took place had electrical installation issues. However, it was resolved because the audio and video team brought a generator. Without that, the premiere would have been a total failure.
I liked the movie, and I think most Hivers will too. I can't wait for it to be released on a streaming platform so everyone can watch it.
