Silver Mamma Chef got quite excited when she saw The Blog of the Month "Sandwich Memories" #BoM
That would be just up her alley, but she gave me permission to write my own story today... with her help of course.
Sandwich Memories
I remember the Sandwich contests with @mondoshawan as the host; and I think with Steemit it was @jaybird, I enjoyed those challenges immensely.
- Bottoms up to John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich for inventing the famous sandwich.
Memories of sandwiches go way back to childhood
- School
- Work
- Children's lunch boxes
Speak of lunch boxes, I have a little story to tell about my egg sandwich.
But first let me share some of my old favorite sandwiches with you.
Salami with gherkins, tomato and cream cheese on white bread
My first steemit sandwich contest.
Chicken and Mushroom on home made brown bread
I remember entering this one for @mondoshawan contest way back, long before the boys went to live in Cape Town, they had a feast that day.
Baking Day
Fridays are my baking bread day, from kneading to rising the dough, then what ever filling is at hand to make a delicious sandwich.
Memories
I remember when I was in junior school, my mom use to make us peanut-butter and syrup sandwiches, some times butter mixed with Marmite.
My friends at school use to often swop their lunch for my peanut-butter and syrup sandwiches.
My Notorious Egg Sandwich
I had a real favorite though, egg and mayonnaise.
That sandwich use to get me in trouble quite a lot, I could never wait until break time to eat it, so use to pop my head under the lid of my desk and take a quick bite.
There was this little boy Terry, who sat behind me at school who hated my egg sandwiches, he threw a fit every time I opened my lunch box, complained... "it smelt bad".
He would yell out on top of his squeaky voice, "Eeeew!.... Cheryl's opened her lunch box again", pinching his nose closed with his fingers, sending the whole class into fits of laughter, agitating the teacher to a degree of malice; I'm sure , judging by her body language at the time, she would've strangled us both if she could.
Of course I got into trouble for disrupting the lesson and had to stay in detention after school to write out 200 lines, "DO NOT EAT IN CLASS, ESPECIALLY EGG SANDWICHES". I just couldn't understand all the fuss about a simple "egg sandwich", it really was beyond me.
My mother received a letter from the teacher as well, referring to me eating my egg sandwiches in class. I never got any more egg sandwiches in my lunch box after that.
My mom made sure though, that I would have my "Egg and Mayo Sandwich" on my return from school, all's well that ends well, not so?... Lol!
I still love my "Egg and Mayo Sandwich" and always will... yes!...in my lunch box,....Hehe!
Then there is my morning toasted cheese tomato and onion sandwich, delicious with a cup of tea or coffee.
Boerewors, fried onion and tomato with cheese sandwich on home baked bread for a quick lunch.
Left over braai boerewors made into a sandwich, for the lazy day.
Just a plain old bean and sausage sandwich for a quick bite, when life gets a bit hectic and one needs to subdue the hunger pangs.
The good old pancake curry sandwich, lovely for those lazy evenings.
I think as one progresses through life one's sandwiches become more creative don't you think?
Well...that's my contribution to Blog of Month, "Sandwich Memories" #BoM for the month of April 2022
"Happy Sandwich Challenge" looking forward in seeing those lovely delicious sandwiches of yours.
