Always young in spirit

My Grandma

When the theme of the second prompt of our collaboration with Dreemport came out, I had no idea how to approach the topic of Generations. I had so many ideas in my head. But these days, I have been collecting some things in my mom's house, and I found an envelope with some pictures that are a little treasure. They are not my memories by any means. They are several pictures of when my maternal grandmother was young. Achi as my son used to call her was extraordinary. I am so fortunate to have had her. I learned so much from her in my life, as a child, and as an adult as well.

I was very attached to my grandmother. When I was a child, I used to spend many afternoons at her house, as she used to pick me up from elementary school, and my mother would pick me up at her house after work. As I grew up, we continued to maintain a very close bond.

There were many things she taught me, but I think one of the greatest legacies I have from her nowadays is to remember her in her silver years with her young spirit.

My Grandma and her sisters

My grandmother did not always have an easy life. She was the youngest of five sisters. I was fortunate to know and enjoy all of them. They were five awesome women. Each one was so different from the other, but at the same time, if the circumstance required it, they could be a single block. For them, the family was fundamental and they passed it on to the next generations.

My grandmother was widowed at a young age. And of the five sisters, she was the only one who had to work to raise her two daughters, my mother, and my aunt. But she always had the support of her family.

In my adult life, I always remember her as jovial, and cheerful. She talked about the most unexpected subjects, and that is why she always got along so well with the young people. She knew about the latest trends, about Formula 1 racing, and never said no when you suggested something different to try.

My son adored her, and they had a beautiful bond. When my son was very young, I was still working office hours, and in the afternoons he used to stay at my mother's house. At that time my grandmother lived with her. So my son spent many afternoons playing with Achi. They were accomplices and used to tell each other secrets.

From her, I learned that growing old does not mean that we have to grow old in mind. One thing is our body, and another, as far as possible, our spirit and mind. I always try to remember that.
