Blog of the Month Winners - May 2023

BOM May EDUCATION winners.jpg

The changing of seasons in the Month of May has been a balm to many all over the world – warmer days and nights in the Northern Hemisphere, while we're loving the cooler climes here in the Southern Hemisphere.

Our Silver Flower has been Holding onto Rainbows of Hope, while her hubby is in ICU, facing many ups and downs. Please keep them both in your hearts and prayers.

Housekeeping

Before we announce our winners, the usual bit of housekeeping: we now have 1,787 subscribers, and despite the decrease in activity, I must say our #silverbloggers do not disappoint when it comes to producing quality posts.
This community would not be what it is without YOU!

Thank you.gif

Incubation and support

We would be remiss in not thanking the team of @ocd for their awesome support of our community, and we think particularly of @acidyo under whose leadership it operates; and our guardian angel @macchiata, who took us under her wings when we were still little babes here.

Delegations

To everybody who contributes to making this a fun community and especially to our delegators.
The value of delegations to the community account is stable and we remain ever grateful. Remember, each delegation adds value to the Mother account's vote.
We put our money where our mouth is and told you how we use your delegations and say thank you to our delegators, in this post.

Tips

When we're able, we tip deserving blogs that we may have missed.

Threads & Leo Tokens

Our community is working in collaboration with LeoThreads with our special curation account, @silverlions.leo.
Every time our Silver Bloggers community members create a thread and use the #silverbloggers tag, they can expect a visit from our @silverlions.leo account.
A big thank you to our very own Silver Scot for getting us on board, so I urge you to take a peek HERE and start sharing your #threads.

Thanks to this initiative Leo tokens now form part of the #bom prizes as well.

Silver Blogger of the Week

Each weekend we have a POLL open on Threads to choose the Silver Bloggers Author of the Week Please VOTE for this week's winner HERE.

A hefty reward is up for grabs, your name could appear there at any time, so start voting, and keep on blogging.

We thank Silver Scot for the hours he puts in each week with this exciting initiative of Leofinance.

Note: If you have trouble voting, contact us in the Coffee Corner on our DISCORD SERVER.

Writer's Block?

The #bom and #silverprompts are meant to encourage and inspire.
If you have writer's block, you can write about any of those topics, even if they're past their due-dates, but do not use #bom or #silverprompts in that instance.
We always look forward to reading your posts. And we manually select and recommend good content to be supported by OCD.

For this month's Blog of the Month, we asked:

We want to hear about Education.
The Future - what would be your ideal curriculum for the next generation?
and/or
Call back the Past - funny stories or life lessons learned.

The team's contribution

This month, there were three team contributions.

team bom1.jpg

Silver Scot spoke of the stress teachers face having to walk on eggshells around learners. Flog the wee buggers I say.

Gangs of youths were physically hitting female members of staff!
I mean what the actual fluff ...
...can you imagine having to teach kids now?
You can't say or do anything without being accused of this that and the other.

A free-thinker from a young age, Dude Silvers shared his vision and gave some advice about The Future of Educational System.

Whatever educational system you will be confronted with, always follow your heart, even if this is "normally" seen as uncivilized and rebellious. The people who understand what is "going on" will always answer you with a smile and their support. What more can we wish for than this?

Silver-Blond Lizzie shared happy memories of attending a farm school in the heart of a forestry station, and some of the mischief she got up to later on - Swotting and Lazy Crazy Days.

My best school years were at a farm school, on a forestry station deep in the mountains of the Eastern Cape. The path to school was through a forest of bluegum and pine trees. I still remember the smell of that forest, and how the pine sap became our chewing gum.

Special mention

@successchar spoke of Education; Usher in The New..... Get Rid of The Old??

Our children may be taught basic math, but they are no longer taught about using that math with life skills. Children are using computers & other electronics to depend on things that are a necessity in life. They are lacking the necessary life skills to survive.
What happens when our youth get in a situation where there are no computers?

Runners up

Silver Brujita's Study For @brujita18 made a comparison of her school years and that of today, where learners rely heavily on the internet and all its Apps.

At least in my time, back in the 80's and 90's I lived in a library looking for information for my homework and research, I had to read, analyze, summarize,
...I felt fulfilled by achieving my goal, which was to graduate by my own effort literally and that feeling is great, maybe that's why they say we are the iron generation, because that's how we were educated, with firmness and effort.

@irvinc spoke of the need for the school curriculum to keep up with changes in the world - Educating for coexistence

The school is the ideal place where tolerance and respect, fundamental values for coexistence in today's globalized world, should be taught and practiced.
I have always had confidence in the ability of education to make us better people. That conviction gave me the motivation to stay in the classroom for more than forty years.

Winning post

Silver Farm Girl gave us a good chuckle when she shared how she always was well-behaved, until high school days (sounds a bit like Silver-Blond Lizzie) - Being Good & A Bit of Fun Wouldn't Hurt

I was a friend to some naughty gals and we learned to sip alcohol in the last months of our senior year. One night, we had a drinking session at a friend's place where I got drunk, lost my dentures (the first time) and ironic enough, it was announced the following morning that I got the model student award for the whole senior class.
