Hello and good day silvery community
Maybe you have already seen these "Silver Names" appear in the member icon of some bloggers in our community.
In the beginning
Not long after this community began, just on a year ago and as a fun way of building the community, the team thought that encouraging folk to choose their own special community name would be the way to go.
(For the How2 get yours, you can click this blue text!)
Now, why would YOU really want to be a Silver Blogger and have your personal member name?
Because the Silver Bloggers’ Community description says, "A community for retired and aspirant retiree bloggers, seasoned and wannabe crypto hodlers"?
Because the community brings together young-at-heart kindred spirits and younger 'old souls'?
Because you are somehow a life-experienced human with a love of blogging, photography and a keenness to learn more about blockchain and crypto?
Because you have a compulsion to share our life experiences for storage on the blockchain for our children and children’s children with musings and memories of lives lived?
Because you love to share your plans (or dreams or fantasies) for life beyond formal work, from leisure and travel to second (or third…) careers and hobbies that can supplement pensions and just what keeps “un” working people busy?
If you can answer most of these questions with a yes, there is a big chance that you found your place to be here on Hive. Right in the middle of this young baby called "web 3" and "crypto social". The decentralized future of internet communication.
If you have doubts on some points, it shows you that you are probably not quite ready to be a Silver Blogger, which is no big deal: you will find a community for every single subject you could every think of writing about. With personal interest and a good deal for informing oneself about Hive and the what's-what-parts of it!
The Silver Blogger community is all about coming together, about "mature" exchange and creating a community where we meet like-minded humans.
It's not about having a silvery name just for the jive.
My Two Cents about the blockchains...
Personally I have been looking for a community like this, since my start on blockchains in 2018. I felt old in this world of "youngsters". Looking out to meet people with life experience is the only thing that kept me here. The money part is of no importance. Especially because I still have a few trust issues with crypto: like the connections via a third party provider to the Internet or the dependence of constant energy to be able to access almost everything. All this can just be taken from us, by whomever decides that our "doing" needs to be limited to nothing.
My Two Cents about moderation...
Another problem, as old as the blockchain and the hope of "HIVE going to the moon": there are many that join the Hive just for "profit" and who will post literally whatever they can come up with, only to make their wallets grow.
This is where community "moderation" becomes is necessary. It's the way of reminding everyone, what we are all about. Filtering out the off-topic posts from folks who do not read the "abouts" nor "rules & guidelines". It's like in a tv-show where the moderator keeps the topic alive and brings discussions back to the green line.
Today we have 1042 subscribers, of which 166 are active and of these we have 42 members which have chosen to be a real part of us, with Silver Name and all.
A question to all our subscribers...
I would like to ask you all to please think about what I have just said and check with yourself if you aren't having a case of FOMO (fear of missing out)? Why not come on over to our coffee corner and see what this is all about? Settle in and get your own silver name to show everyone your support of this awesome community and that you care about a sane world.
...and to my why?!
To me, the Silver Name is like a badge with which I show everyone that I do want some genuineness, honesty and support from other like-minded people rather than for the sake of wealth and luxury, but for the much needed change in our society...
Now i would like to finish with a quote from Lizzie about her idea:
"On the prompting of riverflows, I realized how many of us more mature folk are active here and that we needed our own space!"
The Way to the Coffee Corner
You can click this link https://discord.gg/XB7RqvP4SW , which is called an invite, and by clicking on it your browser will open on the discord website where you create an account
Follow all the steps and it will bring you automatically to the coffee corner.
And that is pretty much it..! You now use discord in a browser and are able to chat with all the Silverbloggers online, woohoo! If you prefer an application on your device, there's that to download too!
This service is free to use, though discord is offering you a "premium" version they call "NITRO". That's up to you!
Some suggested configurations!
Go into the settings of your account
There are the following points i feel "need" to be checked... User Profile, Privacy & Safety, Appearance and Notifications.
In the User Profile you can add your "Avatar" and an "About Me"...
In Privacy & Safety you may restrict the account to your "needs"...
In Appearance you can choose the way of how it all displays...
And in Notifications you choose how it "pings" you when connected...
(It's here you can turn off all the sounds, at least that was the first thing i was looking for to do)
Most Important Rule:
PRETTY PLEASE: Use a strong password and do NOT click on any links in Direct Messages (DM) from folks you do not know!
Same as you do with the "phishing" links in comments on your Hive blog.
You are now properly connected to the Silverbloggers Community Coffee Corner. With all this excitement, we are now looking forward to meet you personally. All this is not just to spare precious RC used up in comments and engagement.
Discord is the space where we can all share stories with each other. It's also a place to share our new blogs, ask and answer questions about crypto, Hive and discord.
Not to forget that the community founders have a good connection to OCD. So using Discord became kind of a "must" for all of us. Reading and "evaluating" so many blogs takes some time as well as conversations to find the pearls that we then present at OCD.
This is where this communication platform helps us to be effective, which is not really possible on Hive at the moment. For any questions, please, feel free to leave a comment!
Last words...
We would love to get more eyes on this post and all community posts from - @hive-106316 - our Silver Bloggers account. This is why we make a point of reblogging your posts. Please do the same?!
Thanks and have an excellent day!
