The Unseen
From the time he started speaking, they would hear him chuckling and talking to himself in his bedroom. When he could talk whole sentences, he told her he was playing with his friend Georgie, a little boy. She asked him where this boy was and he said his friend was afraid of people and ran away each time anyone came into his bedroom.
They realized he had an imaginary friend, but indulged him in this little fantasy, and thought it was loneliness as he did not have any brothers or sisters.
It actually was a miracle that he was still alive, as they nearly lost him during childbirth.
One day, while looking through her great-grandmother's photograph album, he excitedly pointed at the photo of a young boy and shouted:
Mommy, that is Georgie!
She got goosebumps all over!
This photo was of the mystery boy her granny would not speak of and she never learned who the boy in the photo was.
Granny always became sad when she asked about him and would turn the page over and tell her about the other faces in her album.
The mystery boy now had a name and her son begged her to frame the photo and hang it in his bedroom.
He played with this imaginary friend for years, till he startled her one day, tearfully saying that Georgie had gone away, but promised him he would come back again one day and take him to a far-away place that would be their 'forever home!'
Those words gave her the chills, and sometimes at night when she walks past the photo, she could swear that the boy in the photo winked at her...
The Flashing
She had been gardening that Saturday and felt a little stiff but that was nothing unusual, so had a long soak in the bath
The most intense pain suddenly hit her, and her body was aching all over; painkillers did not help, so she went to bed early.
She had the most restless night, continuously waking up and seeing the flashing of her cell phone. No calls nor messages had come in but her screen kept on flashing till she turned it off. This happened repeatedly and made her uneasy. She woke up in the morning feeling really awful.
It was a busy Sunday as they had friends over, and when she sat down that evening, she wondered why he had not called. It was most unusual, they had a very close bond and he called her daily.
She had an uneasy feeling as he was not well when they spoke the morning before.
She called his number, but it went to voicemail, very strange as he was particular about keeping his phone charged.
She'd hardly put her phone down when it rang again.
It was his friend, sounding frantic.
He told her that her uncle's flat door was open when he went to visit and he found him lying on his stomach with his hands and feet bound up and that he was
as stiff as a tree trunk!
She will never forget those words!
She did not believe what he was trying to tell her and shouted that he needed to call an ambulance.
The next voice on the phone was a stranger, telling her he is from the police, and that her uncle had been strangled the night before.
She stood there, not wanting to believe what he was saying.
The days that followed were a blur, having to call his brothers and sisters; arriving at his beautiful apartment, and seeing everything covered in the fine black dust the police use for taking fingerprints, became a memory that she tries to forget.
Afterward, it suddenly hit her as she remembered the intense pain of that night and the incessant flashing of her cell phone.
Had she experienced a paranormal event and was her beloved uncle trying to communicate with her?
She believes that indeed is what happened, that perhaps he was trying to say goodbye and reassure her that even though he left this world, his spirit is still alive in another realm.
Can spirits have an effect on electronic gadgets?
What happened that night convinced her that it indeed is possible.
If the living soul is also a form of energy, then after death it will always be there in some form of energy.

My first story is fictional, but I still have the framed photo of the nameless boy hanging in my home, next to another one of a beautiful nameless lady from the same album; both were framed by my uncle who was fascinated with family history, and who features in my second paranormal story, sadly non-fictional.
We never found out who these two ancestors of ours were, so they will always remain a mystery.
