Taking a #bow here for the first #silverbloggers Blog of the Week with some nostalgia as that was the first thing that came to mind when Fiona suggested the topic of Silver threads among the Gold.
The Silver and Gold seasons of life are interweaved just as in nature so I let my mind wander off to a Golden era a very long time long ago.
I celebrated my birthday yesterday; a special day always, as everyone who is dear to me calls, messages or visits. Covid stole those visits last year, thankfully a couple of special people visited this time around.

Once upon a time, many many moons ago, I started my life off with a mop of Golden hair.
Then many many moons later, much to my horror, the Silver threads started appearing, which was quickly hidden with the help of a bottle, until Silver became the in-thing once more and my decision of going au natural was real easy.
I've spoken before of my young uncle with whom I had a very special bond.
Ouma and Oupa lived just two houses down the road; he and my youngest aunt would take the bus with me in tow and we'd spend hours in the hot sun on the golden beaches of Port Elizabeth.
This city was a favourite with holiday makers and fancy dress competitions were held during the school holidays.
I was Rulov's living doll, so I'd be dressed up in all kinds of outrageous outfits; once was the Terror of St Trinians, inspired by the gag cartoon books about a boarding school where the girls are delinquents; I remember holding a very long cigarette holder.

On another occasion I was dressed in what was called a pencil skirt that was so tight around the legs that I could barely walk and to make things worse I had to wear high stilettos made to fit my tiny feet by stuffing the shoes with newspaper; the look was finished off with my long golden hair in a beehive style using scrunched up newspaper to make the beehive.
I did not mind at all as it was exciting hearing the people clap when I had to walk on the stage with all the other little girls and won an enormous heart-shaped box of chocolates which I held onto for dear life!

Rulov ended up on stage as a dancer and we would go to many performances; I was mesmerized by all the gold and glitter; it was an an exciting Golden era that was tragically cut short years later and I entered a very sad period as the cold Silver threads started ensnaring me and for a while I wore....

Thankfully the cold Silver threads were replaced by a new Golden era and those good old memories have surfaced once again and will never leave me.
That mop has now turned fully Silver and the years seem to be flying by at a faster pace but I'm loving every minute of it.

Our photographers can have a field day with silver threads among the gold and I'm thinking especially of Seasons - those hot summer days spent on Golden beaches and the Silver threads of winter slowly creeping in now that we're at the end of Autumn with its Golden colours which will soon turn into ice cold Silver.
Life and the kind of activities we're involved with are intertwined just like the silver and the gold and changes as time goes on.
