In favor of pleasure...
This weekend I was at the home of a very dear person where we gathered, a group of friends, to celebrate her birthday and to celebrate friendship.
As always, the gathering was filled with food, drink, laughter, music and most especially, deep and intimate conversations and expressions of affection. These types of gatherings are echoes that resonate within you, long after, still. Those blessed echoes that make us happy in time.
Most of these friends are former teachers, tutors, who are now colleagues and classmates. Also, they are retired guys, with grown up children and even grandchildren, who look for in this kind of meeting the perfect opportunity to relax, to catch up on the good and new things, the bad ones we always know about, and to reminisce. It's amazing how, after a certain age, looking back is an exercise that can save us.
Every second was pleasant enough so that when we left, we were all grateful for the meeting and prayed for new and early celebrations. Because that's how we from this side of the world are: effusive, boisterous, sweet and with the conviction that there is a lot of good.
Personally, I admire those who can work every day of the week and don't need a moment of fun or relaxation. Those who do everything thinking about productivity or making the most of their time. I admire them because I am the opposite.
I love listening to music, watching movies, chatting with friends, sitting in front of the sea and contemplating the horizon, savoring a cold beer, a good cheese, a delicious meat. I love painting, writing, reading, closing my eyes and imagining possible universes. I have discovered the pleasure of sleeping without alarms, of finding money in the pocket of my pants and of achieving what many thought you would never achieve. I have discovered, in time, that life cannot be reduced to work and obligations, there are many pleasures worth living.
