I'm @silverflea ❤

I am a firm believer that names mark people. It is a very big responsibility, according to my theory, to name a child because, according to my thesis, the success or failure of that child will depend on that name. It is not the same to name your child Edward or Albert, as the princes are called, as it is to name him Cruz, Junior or Maria Magdalena.

I have already said many times why I was named Nancy (no, it was not because of the French city), but what I have said very little is that because of my size, I am 1.58 m tall and the smallest of my siblings, I often had to deal with “nicknames” that alluded to my short stature. For example, I could be called “miniature chewing gum” (a candy from the 80's), apple tree gum and even matchbox. But among the nicknames I remember most is “La pulga” (the flea).

When I was about 12 years old, I belonged to my high school soccer team. Soccer was a sport I was passionate about and had played in school, so it was natural for me to join the women's national team. As is common in most sports, “aliases” were used to refer to the players, and hence in my group of girls there was La negra, La pared, La loba and also La pulga, which was me. This name pointed to my size, but also to my speed on the court.

When I was told that I had to choose a name to distinguish myself in this beautiful community that already feels like my home, @silverbloggers, someone reminded me of this nickname that brings back so many memories of competitions and youthful triumphs and I saw no better name to formalize my integration to this community of silvers. So here I am @silverfleag.

I am a 51 year old woman, who has known how to appreciate and celebrate her virtues, but also her defects. My height has never been a limitation to reach the goals I have set (maybe to reach a fruit in a tall tree yes;)) and although it seems unusual, people when they see me in person, do not believe that I can be “a bump on the floor”, and believe that I am more than 1.58. And the thing is that people's size has nothing to do with their height, but with their attitude towards life and I, particularly, have attitude to spare by meters. ❤
