New Window Installation and Sewing Curtains - by Sunscape

What a flurry of activity we've had this week with having new windows installed throughout the entire house. I'm glad we ordered them back in January since it took until last week for them to arrive at the warehouse.

Two young men arrived early Monday morning and set up the trailer in the driveway. They put down drop cloths wherever they were working to keep the floors clean. The first to be replaced was over the kitchen sink. It is the only crank out window that I wanted so I could open either side while cooking if needed.

Using large sheets of plastic on the ground kept it pretty clean considering the amount of fiberglass and wood was removed from each window.

The windows that we had were over 28 years old and all the seals were bad. We knew it was time to replace them with energy efficient ones, especially due to the huge rate increases the energy company decided to do this past fall.

While the men were working, I took these floor length curtains and changed them into this tear-drop style. It was time for a new look, and it saved a lot of money instead of buying new curtains.

I found these insulated panels at a local store for $15.00 / 2 panels and purchased 2 packs. All I needed to do was sew all the panels together to use them on the sliding glass door going out to the back porch. It took forever to iron all that fabric. Once they were hung, I pleated them and clipped them for two days to create the folds.

The windows came at the perfect time before it is planting season. I have beds all around the perimeter of the house where I plant vegetables. So, it was nice to have them done so I didn't have to hold off planting anything.

Now, it will be interesting to compare the monthly energy bills with the previous years and see how much we can save. :-)

Until next time, this is Sunscape
