When is a loch not a loch in Scotland - When it is Raith lake!

Hello Hello Silverites

How is the week treating you?

One of the things that us Silvers need to do is keep up with their exercise. I try to multitask and do my exercise in nature, by going for a walk and playing with my new toy.

Last week I visited a lake, yes in Scotland we do actually have some lakes, they are not all lochs! Quite often when a body of water is manmade they get called lakes, but occasionally natural bodies of water in Scotland are called lakes and nobody really knows why.

This one is Raith lake and it is over the road from my normal wood walk in Fife, Scotland, so only about about half an hour walk.

It is on the Raith Estate and was until Sept 2021 a very successful fishery.

However, the landowner pulled the plug by lower the water level a half a metre which meant they saved money by not making the required health and safety improvements for that size of reservoir.

By all accounts, the couple that ran the fishery for five years had done an incredible job, but then had to stop as it was no longer a viable concern.

On the way there is a wooden bat hanging upside down. No idea why, perhaps a trail marker of some sort🦇. The main access to the lake and pier has been blocked off by the landowner, what a bawbag!

However follow the snail 🐌 and you will get there, albeit a wee bit more slowly!

Spring is a gorgeous time of the year, trees are still naked, but wee buds are spring up, in the summer this will be bushy and hard to see where are you going!!

IMG_0389.JPG

Another beauty of Spring is seeing all the gorgeous flowers pop up, and this colour was a perfect contrast with the blue of the sky.
Who doesn't like flowers, guaranteed to put on a smile on my face!

IMG_0396.JPG

There sneaking in between the trees is the water of Raith lake!
Onwards we go!

IMG_0386.JPG

But first we have to cross a wee burn via the little hobgoblin bridge:)

IMG_0382.JPG

Then it was a little climb up a path and bam into loads and loads of daffodils on the hillside. I heard that a company in Wales is growing thousands of daffodils for experimental research into treating Alzheimers, that would be so cool if that takes off successfully! It seems I cannot go anywhere without seeing swans, and this pair were much more wild than their Park pond cousins. This was Walter and Wilma Wild Swan and they said a hello to @coquicoin @eylz619 and @ifarmgirl and had a surprise for them!

IMG_0435.JPG

Imagine living in that house, what a view you get, well in the Spring at least, depends how the trees bush up. Do you see the little reed island on the right of this picture. Do you see what is on it Super Eli?

IMG_0444.JPG

Walter decided to get back sharpish and have a check, I loved this shot with their wing span, swans are big!

IMG_0449.JPG

Here is the start of the 'Lake!' so pretty in the sunshine. Do you see the little building on the far side over the water in the centre of the picture. Let's go a wee bit closer, thank you Mr Zoom!

IMG_0457.JPG

Yes, it is actually where the pier is, that used to have about ten rowing boats, that anglers could take out, but oc course that is all kaput now and that is the area that was blocked off, including the car park. What an a$$ that landlowner is!

IMG_0458.JPG

And here we have the surprise that was on the island. This is a cygnet, you tell with his feathers, he still has some of the camouflage tan coloured ones, but the easiest way to tell if a mute swan is an adult is by looking at their beak!

Do you remember the adults beaks, first they were orange and secondly that had that black ball at the top of them.

Well look at babcy cygnet below, he has a black beak still and the ball is only just beginning to develop!

So there we have it, and an example of how this Silver gets some exercise and fresh air, healthy body healthy mind and all that jazz! Those three swans made my day!

This little wander goes for #wednesdaywalk from the awesome @tattoodjay and #alwaysaflower that make me smile from the equally awesome @dswigle

Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed the breath of fresh air and have a great rest of your week!
