I got a slot from the sickle cell initiative where I volunteered that the first lady of my state is financing few people for a breast cancer screening and ultrasound.
I showed interest and submitted the necessary details for registration.
Lucky me, I was contacted few days after for the venue and time.
On getting there, we were addressed by the owner of the hospital, enlightening us on how important and healthy it is for us to always examine our breast once in a week.
And also to see a doctor the moment we noticed any changes or develop any pain in our breast.
She made us understand procrastination of regular checkups and self assumption of any changes we noticed can be putting our health to risk. And that breast cancer can be treated fully without cutting off the breast if it is attended to early enough.
She also taught us how we can do a physical exercise by ourselves but we should report to the hospital the moment we notice any change.
It was a full enlightening lecture and also very helpful then we proceed to the screening proper.
We were asked to check our height, weight and BP (Blood Pressure), which the nurses jotted down and took with us to the doctors.
From there, we were called accordingly to the first screening ward according to the details the nurse jotted down.
Here is where the physical test is been done. The patient will undress while the doctor will have to put on a glove, using his/her hand to examine both breast if at all there is a lumps, pains or any form of thing which is not meant to be.
We were not allowed to go in to any of the screening ward with our phones to avoid anyone taking pictures of the patient.
Then we move to the second screening ward which the ultrasound test is done with a digital device.
Here a gel with be applied to both breast and the device will be used to spread the gel around the surface, this will help to detect if there is any harmful or cancerous damage to the breast for immediate treatment and attention.
From there we dress up and move back to the reception where we await a nurse for our results and further counseling if need be.
I was very anxious and felt unrest till I got my screening result and it is a congratulations 💃💃💃 🤗
