Hello! Everyone, welcome to my blog. This is another interesting episode of the #hivenaija prompt, I had a hard time choosing which prompt to elaborate on as the both have huge impact on our social life, but finally decided to elaborate on the fashion trend concept I would like to get rid of.
Fashion trends come and go, adding a touch of excitement to our personal style choices. This generation finds it very easy to emulate any incoming trend and could cross every bridge to be on the trend trail. However, there are certain fashion trends that seem unnecessary and perhaps even detrimental.
In today's post, we will explore two trends that I believe deserve a graceful exit from the fashion scene and we will give them a standing ovation as they exit. Let's dive in!
"Eyelashes" A Trend That Has Lost Its Way.
Eyelash extensions and exaggerated lash styles have become a widespread trend, especially among teenagers. The reasons for embracing this trend often seem to lack substance, with many individuals joining in simply because it's considered fashionable. I love lashes, I admire ladies who wear them properly. However, the excessive length of some eyelashes raises eyebrows rather than enhancing natural beauty.
Some are so scary and disturbing, defeating the primary aim.
Health Concerns: A Valid Reason for Letting Go
The decision to eliminate this trend is based on genuine health concerns:
Potential for Accidental Harm
The process of fixing these lashes opens up the possibility of missteps and accidents that could result in severe eye injuries, and in some cases, even permanent blindness. There was an incident involving a self-proclaimed professional that left a lady partially blind, making her understandably hesitant to continue with this trend. Many others have been victims of glue mishaps. The eye is a delicate organ and as such can easily bruise and lead to permanent damage.
Allergic Reactions
Individuals may unknowingly develop allergies or sensitivities to the chemicals present in the glue used to attach eyelashes. Allergic reactions can cause discomfort, frequent eye itching, and, in severe cases, long-term damage. I had a personal experience with allergies as a result of frequent fixing of eyelashes and also many who had experienced this have reconsidered the potential risks associated with this trend.
"Dressing" Reconsidering the Revealing.
Fashion choices should not only reflect our personal style but also embrace elegance, sophistication, and respect for oneself and others. Unfortunately, there has been an increase in the prevalence of revealing clothing, which detaches from the true essence of fashion and can potentially have negative consequences.
It is true that you should dress just the way you want to be addressed. But then again, the victims of the choice you chose are the young ones, when they begin to admire and dress in an in-decent manner they end up exposing themselves as prey to men who cannot control their sight and resist the urge of rape.
It is essential to emphasise that addressing the trend of revealing clothing is not about modesty or passing judgement on individual choices. Instead, it is a call for more thoughtful, tasteful, and timeless fashion choices. We should strive for clothing that empowers and inspires, while reflecting our values and principles.
Again, fashion speaks highly of our values and culture. A revealing clothes however, expresses negative notions about us. It has no place in our socio-cultural background and beliefs.
Fashion trends have the power to shape our personal style and express our individuality. However, it is equally important to critically evaluate certain trends and their repercussions. Eyelashes that defy reality and revealing clothing that undermines sophistication are two examples of fashion trends that warrant rethinking. By focusing on our health, personal taste, and respect for ourselves and others, we can elevate fashion choices and create a more enduring style legacy.
