TacoCat's TrEats #179: Sweet on Gordon Ramsay's Sticky Toffee Pudding? 😋 [Part 2]

Hey Hive!

Even though there are still people getting covid, it's basically being treated like a cold these days so thankfully almost everything is back to normal now! There are no more restrictions on dining these days and you don't even have to wear a mask anymore if you don't want to! It's a huge relief and this allows us to try different food places again!

So last week, I started sharing about our first time visiting Gordon Ramsay's restaurant here in Singapore called Bread Street Kitchen & Bar, which is located in the swankiest mall in Singapore - Marina Bay Sands! Since it was in a fancy place we made sure to dress up a little for the occasion.

image.png

These fancy places are not our typical fare but we had a voucher to spend here and decided to try Gordon Ramsay's restaurant since we'd probably not patronise it otherwise.

We went there ahead of time for our weekday late lunch reservation so we had to wait for our table to be ready and got to sit at the long table on the first floor.

But the second floor of the restaurant was definitely nicer and more spacious.

We even managed to get a table with a nice view of the bayside walkway outdoors.

This was the view of the restaurant from the outside!

I didn't include this last week but there is actually al fresco dining here as well. But Singapore is way too warm for that, other than maybe on a nice evening.

Here's the full menu again:

We had a $200 voucher to use and we wanted to try his specialty which is the Beef Wellington, and a dessert. Unfortunately, they don't give out free bread anymore but since we had to wait for the Beef Wellington we just ordered the bread basket to snack on in the meantime.

It was really nice bread to be fair, but we made sure not to get too full for the main course since it was supposed to be a sizable portion, and it really was!

It was our first time trying British food and tbh while I could appreciate it for what it was, I don't think it really appealed to our taste buds that much. The sides of roasted carrots and mashed potato were good, but the beef itself was a little too thick for us. Even though it is clearly medium it was still quite tiring to chew and the mushroom layer inside it was a little too overpowering to us.

I think we'd both still prefer just regular steak when it comes to beef. But this was Gordon's specialty after all. It was a really filling meal nonetheless and I was almost too full for dessert!

image.png

For dessert, we ordered the Sticky Toffee Pudding with clotted cream ice cream since we saw one of our favourite youtubers order it at Hell's Kitchen in Las Vegas and she highly recommended it.

I'm not sure why it's called pudding when it looked more like a cake, but it did look really good! It was also nice and warm and I was scared the ice cream would melt too quickly but it was fine just sitting on top of the cake. It also came with a pot of salted caramel sauce so we topped it with a little bit more since there was already caramel on the bottom.

image.png

Since it was also toffee pudding I was fearful it would be way too sweet for me since my tolerance for sweets has gone down drastically as I've gotten older.

image.png

But it was surprisingly not as sweet as I thought! It looked like it was going to be sickeningly sweet as with other toffees, but the cake was moist and was actually not sweet at all. It only gets sweet when it soaks up the salted caramel sauce, which paired with it really well. It also had a nice texture and firmness such that it holds its shape but still breaks apart easily when you bite into it.

image.png

Overall, it was a pretty enjoyable meal apart from the beef wellington not being our taste. It was also our first time trying British food and I guess since it's from Gordon Ramsay's restaurant it's supposed to taste like that but it just didn't appeal to us I guess. Quite unfortunate, but it was still a really unique experience and food that we would not have had otherwise.

The restaurant itself was very nice too, although it did get quite crowded as it got into evening. It did give me an excuse to dress up which was nice and different from our usual meals. I'd say Gordon Ramsay's restaurant is probably a once-in-a-lifetime experience for people like us who prefer simple and affordable food. It was a really memorable experience for sure, so if you have the means to try it, I'd say it's worth visiting at least once!
