Spiler Buda
When my boyfriend told me he'd have today off from work, I decided to hunt for a new place where we could have a healthy lunch, while also enjoying the ambience while eating. We rarely take the time to do so together, usually, we bring our daughter and happen to land in a place on a spontaneous note. This also often means we can't truly enjoy lunch as our daughter is quite fussy and I usually take this into account when we go out for lunch or dinner. This time though, she was at the kindergarten, and I decided to go to Spiler Budapest which I discovered last week when (ironically) I was looking for home delivery options. This place looked so great that I didn't want to order, but have the full experience of eating in the restaurant instead.
This is the first thing you see when you land on their website. Quite intriguing and it made me want to check it out, especially when I saw pictures of the place. It really looks great and I can imagine having a few drinks there would be great too. Not for us today though, we only had a healthy lunch there today.
For a little history about the name, you can find it here.
I want to focus on the food we ate there today and share some awesome pictures with you as well.
A picture says more than a thousand words
As this place and the ambience are captured quite easily in a few pictures, I will first show you what we saw when we arrived at the place that is actually located in a shopping mall, but on the outside of it so you don't have to enter the mall to get here. The mall is called MOM park. We arrived from inside the mall as we parked our car in the garage of the mall.
We had never been to this mall before, so we had no idea on which side Spiler Buda was located, thankfully this pillar was quite the eyecatcher and we knew where to go not long after arrival.
Once you exit the mall, on the left you see the sign above. And then you have this funny iglo outside for those that want to sit outside, and I assume want to smoke. I'm not 100% sure about the smoking part as I don't smoke. It looks funny with the penguin decoration and caught the eye immediately.
This is the rest of the outside area:
And the entrance:
You can already see the musical theme all around you as soon as you enter. For more about that, check out their website. The site is actually as cool as the place itself.
Top shelves above the kitchen in close-up:
And lastly, the part of the restaurant where I avoided taking too many pictures as I didn't want to bother the other guests.
That thing in the back on the ceiling is a drums set! Too bad people were seated there, but I guess I will come back and try to take some shots on that side of the restaurant too.
The perfect spot to eat
We had quite a few options where we could sit, and the place is filled with comfortable chairs or sofas to sit on, but we decided to sit across the bar as this spot has great ambience and this way I could shoot a few extra pictures without people being seated.
Some details at the bar:
Are you just as in love with this place as I am? Great, let's see what we had for lunch now.
Superfood salad with prawns
I have a confession to make, I never, ever ate prawns since my childhood when I decided these weren't to my liking. Until recently when we did a gourmet dinner at home and my boyfriend decided to have prawns, I tasted them and to my surprise, I liked them. So when my boyfriend said he was going to order the superfood salad with prawns, I decided to also order the superfood salad. I doubted for a few seconds though to play safe and go for the salad with chicken instead until I reminded myself that I should have faith that this place probably serves good quality food and I should order outside of my comfort zone for once. I went for the prawns as well.
Looks good, doesn't it? Some close-ups:
And a side dish that we shared, fried sweet potatoes which I recently tried for the first time, and I love it!
I have to admit, this salad was by far one of the best I've eaten somewhere in a long time. I will use it as an inspiration for my next salad at home to try out something new.
Conclusion
This was a great choice to have lunch together with my boyfriend and the best thing about it was that he didn't have any trouble with his stomach after eating this. I would love to go here for a drink one day and taste a little of the evening ambience as well. I bet it looks great at night when the lights are dimmed with the red decor. If you're ever in Budapest, please make sure you find Spiler Buda at MOM park, I can highly recommend it.
Thanks to the staff for the great service, we will come back for sure.
