For some time now I have realized that I always turn to some works that have in common the same director, I know he doesn't have the trajectory of people like Spielberg, Kübrick or Hitchkock, he has "a something", a special touch that hooks me to his works. This person is: Taika Waititi.

A native of New Zealand, Taika has done it all: movies, TV series, music videos and lots and lots of commercials. I think his leap to fame and the American market came with Thor: Ragnarok and consolidated with Jojo Rabbit. Before that we have great things that arguably went unnoticed like "What we do in the shadows" (the movie), Boy, the Inbetweeners, Eagle vs. After that we have a few episodes of The Mandalorian, Free Guy and "What we do in the shadows" (the series) which has had several Emmy nominations and his most recent work is Thor: Love and Thunder which premieres this year.

One of the things I admire about him is that he has the ability and audacity to do it all: from directing to acting to producing to writing.

His style and way of directing is always loaded with humor, sarcasm and satire, a humor that is quite out of the ordinary, but ends up being to everyone's liking. Likewise, Taika's style always manages to convey innocence and puts us in touch with our inner child, even when he is dealing with really tough situations like a film that deals with World War II. There is something in the way he presents things to us that makes everything feel very fresh and light, something that I find quite difficult to achieve.

Although his forte is comedy, he has shown us that he is capable of directing any genre: drama, mockumentary and action (heroes and Westerns). From the interviews I've seen with him, it's clear that he's a simple and down to earth person, besides being super funny, he must be wonderful to work with. I also like that he always tries to include and pay homage to his aboriginal roots in everything he does.

Desde hace algún tiempo me he dado cuenta de que siempre recurro a algunas obras que tienen en común al mismo director, se que no tiene la trayectoria de personas como Spielberg, Kübrick o Hitchkock tiene "un no se que", un toque especial que me engancha a sus obras. Esta persona es: Taika Waititi.

Oriundo de Nueva Zelanda,Taika ha hecho de todo: películas, series de TV, videos de música y muchísimos comerciales. Creo que su salto a la fama y al mercado estadounidense se dio Thor: Ragnarok y se consolidó con Jojo Rabbit. Antes de eso tenemos grandes cosas que podria decirse pasaron desapercibidas como "What we do in the shadows" (la película), Boy, the Inbetweeners, Eagle vs. Shark. Luego de esto tenemos algunos episodios de The Mandalorian, Free Guy y "What we do in the shadows" (la serie) que ha tenido varias nominaciones a los Emmys y su más reciente trabajo es Thor: Love and Thunder que se estrena este año.

Una de las cosas que admiro de él es que tiene la capacidad y la audacia de hacerlo todo: desde dirigir hasta actuar, pasando por producir y escribir.

Su estilo y forma de dirigir siempre cargados de humor, sarcasmo y sátira, un humor que se sale bastante de lo común, pero que termina siendo del agrado de todos. De igual forma, el estilo de Taika siempre logra transmitir inocencia y nos pone en contacto con nuestro niño interior, aún cuando esté tratando situaciones realmente duras como una película que trata sobre la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Hay algo en la forma de presentarnos las cosas que hace que todo se sienta muy fresco y ligero, cosa que a mí parecer es bastante difícil de lograr.

A pesar de que su fuerte es la comedia, nos ha demostrado que es capaz de dirigir cualquier género: drama, mockumentary y acción (héroes y Western). De las entrevistas que he visto de el se denota que es una persona sencilla y con los pies sobre la tierra, aparte de super gracioso, trabajar con él debe ser maravilloso. También me agrada que siempre trata de incluir y hacer homenaje sus raíces aborigenes en cada cosa que hace.
