Welcome to this post about my favorite science fiction TV show and this time I am going to be unorthodox and I am going to place Neon Genesis Evangelion, although it is an Anime, its story is based on science fiction, with an impressive environment, although for many it is difficult to understand it, it has a psychological and action plot that traps you and that improves episode after episode that is why it is considered one of the most watched animes in history.
The plot is as follows: In the year 1999, in Antarctica, a cataclysm called "The Second Impact" occurred as a result of an incident caused by beings known as Angels. Much of the Earth was devastated by the phenomenon. Years later, in 2015, the Angels return and begin to attack Earth. The NERV organization unveils its new project to save the world: giant bio-mechanical robots known as EVAs, which are one of the few forces on Earth capable of confronting the Angels. These EVAs can only be piloted by a very specific set of people who can emotionally synchronize with the robots, which is why all of their pilots are teenagers. I think this is based because the human being is more emotionally sensitive (and unstable) is during adolescence. Hence all its pilots are young teenagers.
Bienvenidos a esta publicación sobre mi programa de televisión preferido de ciencia ficción y en esta ocasión voy a hacer poco ortodoxo y voy a colocar Neon Genesis Evangelion, aunque es un Anime, su historia se basa en la ciencia ficción, con un entorno impresionante, aunque para muchos es difícil entenderla, tiene una trama psicológica y de acción que te atrapa y que mejora episodio tras episodio por eso es considerado uno de los animes más visto de la historia.
La trama es la siguiente, En el año 1999, en la Antártida, ocurrió un cataclismo llamado "El Segundo Impacto", como resultado de un incidente ocasionado por unos seres conocidos como Ángeles. Gran parte de la Tierra quedó devastada por el fenómeno. Años después, en el 2015, los Ángeles regresan y comienzan a atacar a la Tierra. La organización NERV revela su nuevo proyecto con miras a salvar el mundo: gigantes bio-mecánicos robots conocidos como EVAs, que son unos de las pocas fuerzas sobre la Tierra capaces de enfrentar a los Ángeles. Estos EVAs que solamente pueden ser pilotados por una serie de personas muy específicas que logren sincronizarse emocionalmente con los robots, por lo que todos sus pilotos son adolescentes. Creo que esto se basa porque el ser humano es más emocionalmente sensible (e inestable) es durante la adolescencia. De ahí que todos sus pilotos sean jóvenes adolescentes.
But do not be confused, Evangelion is not a television series of mechanical robots fighting, well if only in part, because the battles between the Androids EVAs and Angels are spectacular, also the extraordinary thing about this Anime is the development of the characters delve into the psychology of each character of the anime and we see their past, their fears, their dreams, their hopes and their internal struggles in a very original and, above all, chilling way, remember that they are teenagers fighting to the death with creatures from another world, so it has to do a lot with the psychological impact that the battles have and the responsibility that is put on them.
The concept of the hero protagonist here changes immediately. Shinji Ikari is not a hero, he's the opposite; he's someone you pity, someone you hate, someone who is not hero material, until it's his turn to become one. The other characters may appear to be the same as in other stories, the foreigner with too much humour (Asuka), the reserved girl unable to feel anything for others (Rei), the seductive woman with an almost childish character, but determined when the situation requires it (Misato), the boy who loves weapons (Kensuke)..., but when we get into their pasts, their lives and discover who they really are, things change. In other words, if in current anime we see stereotypes of characters like the ones I am mentioning, we must say that they come from an idea already embodied in Evangelion, which means that they are not original at all.
Pero no se confundan, Evangelion no es una serie de televisión de robots mecánicos luchando, bueno si solo en parte, porque las batallas entre los Androides EVAs y los Ángeles son espectaculares, también lo extraordinario de este Anime es el desarrollo de los personajes se adentran en la psicología de cada personaje del anime y vemos su pasado, sus miedos, sus sueños, sus esperanzas y sus luchas internas de una manera muy original y, sobre todo, escalofriante, recuerden que son adolescentes luchando a muerte con criaturas de otro mundo, así que tiene que ver mucho el impacto psicológico que tienen las batallas y la responsabilidad que se pone sobre ellos.
El concepto del héroe protagonista aquí cambia de inmediato. Shinji Ikari no es un héroe, es todo lo contrario; es alguien por quien te compadeces, a quien odias, alguien que no tiene madera de héroe, hasta que le toca convertirse en uno. Los demás personajes pueden aparentar ser lo mismo de otras historias, la extranjera con demasiados humos (Asuka), la chica reservada incapaz de sentir nada por los demás (Rei), la seductora mujer de carácter casi infantil, pero decidida cuando lo requiere la situación (Misato), el chico amante de las armas (Kensuke)…, pero cuando nos metemos en sus pasados, en sus vidas y descubrimos quienes son en realidad la cosa cambia. O sea, que si en los animes actuales se ven estereotipos de personajes como los que estoy nombrando, hay que decir que vienen de una idea ya plasmada en Evangelion, quiere decir que no son para nada originales.
Apart from the evolution in the personal problems of the main characters, there are many references of all kinds in the series: religious, philosophical and scientific. The flash in the form of a cross in the deaths of the angels or the ¨lanza de Longinus¨ itself, as well as the reflections about the guilt of each one, are some examples of this. The animation is very good, it is not very good even for the time in which the anime was made, but I remember I read once that it was due to budget issues. Another great field that the series has is its brutal Soundtrack. Adequate for any type of situation, in fights against enemies or sad situations of the main characters. It should be noted that its Opening is one of the best I've ever heard in my life in an anime, it's simply fantastic.
Aparte de la evolución en los problemas personales de los protagonistas, se hacen muchísimas referencias de todo tipo en la serie: religiosas, filosóficas y científicas. El destello en forma de cruz en las muertes de los ángeles o la propia ¨lanza de Longinus¨, pasando por las reflexiones acerca de la culpabilidad de cada uno, son algunos ejemplos de ello. La animación está muy bien, no es muy buena ni para la época en la que se hizo el anime, pero me acuerdo que leí una vez que fue por tema de presupuesto. Otro campo genial que tiene la serie es su brutal Banda Sonora. Adecuada para cualquier tipo de situación, en peleas contra enemigos o situaciones tristes de los protagonistas. Hay que destacar que su Opening es uno de los mejores que he escuchado en mi vida en un anime, es simplemente fantástica.
