They are for profit entities that will do whatever it takes to strengthen their position, including challenging the law. Even though European was said to have the most stringent personal data protection act, still all the giants are still able to carefully maneuver around the grey zones. They have the motives and obvious intention to do so, which is to dominate the market and generate profit for shareholders.

It is up to us whether to use the platform or not. Use it wisely and if you opt to go against the giant, perhaps we can learn from Elon whom just ditch fb totally.

For me, I have my business marketing on Facebook as well, which helps a lot and contributes to most of my sales. Therefore, I would not say that it does not do good to people. It connects the right customers to the right business. Yet, with such power comes great responsibility; as users, we still can put some pressure on them.
