It's astounding to me that a political party that is renowned for its constant battle against human life and human well being, has successfully appropriated the "pro-life" brand. "Anti-women" would suit them much better...

For nearly a half century the Supreme Court's decision in Roe v. Wade has protected a woman's right to terminate pregnancy in the first two semesters, that is until the fetus is able to survive outside the womb. Until now all the court's decisions have upheld Roe's central framework, which is a good thing, but also an indication that it stands on shaky ground; there's no actual federal law that protects this right, and Supreme Court decisions can be overturned. And that's exactly what's about to happen. Trump's presidency has been an enormous victory for conservatives, as he was able to stack the courts with judges appointed by himself:
The current Roberts Court has become more conservative, now with six conservative justices that include Justices Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett (appointed by President Trump).

The Court is currently assessing arguments in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, a lawsuit over a 15 week abortion ban in Mississippi, which constitutes a departure from the 24 week or 2 semester "viability" standard, and is seen as the most severe threat to the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling. Wednesday all the judges made oral arguments in the case, and the general expectations are that Roe v. Wade's future is in serious doubt. Please read or listen to this article for the details of the judges' arguments: Roe v. Wade's future is in doubt after historic arguments at Supreme Court.
This may be the most concrete victory for conservatives, and the most devastating loss for women's bodily autonomy, in decades. If things go as expected, the decision whether or not to ban the right to abortion will be turned back to the States, after which we'll see all conservative states effectively eliminate this right. If it's okay to refuse the right to terminate a pregnancy at 15 weeks, then why not at 6 weeks, or 3, or at fertilization?
Getting rid of the viability standard, but still leaving the right to abortion technically intact, would in practice invite an anarchic scramble, as conservative states rushed to ban abortion as early as possible and push the limit back sooner and sooner in pregnancy. Julie Rickelman, a longtime abortion rights advocate and the lawyer representing Mississippi’s lone abortion clinic in the Dobbs case, put it bluntly: if viability goes, Roe is effectively no longer good law. “If the court upholds this law, it will be discarding the viability line and overruling Roe,” she told Carmon. “That is the key line in the law that has protected people’s access to abortion.”

This whole case, the entire decades long fight of conservatives against abortion, is emblematic of their purely black-and-white world-view. Also it's the ultimate virtue-signal, as the unborn are the perfect group to virtue-signal to and about. Here's a quote from Methodist Pastor David Barnhart to illustrate this point:
“The unborn” are a convenient group of people to advocate for. They never make demands of you; they are morally uncomplicated, unlike the incarcerated, addicted, or the chronically poor; they don’t resent your condescension or complain that you are not politically correct; unlike widows, they don’t ask you to question patriarchy; unlike orphans, they don’t need money, education, or childcare; unlike aliens, they don’t bring all that racial, cultural, and religious baggage that you dislike; they allow you to feel good about yourself without any work at creating or maintaining relationships; and when they are born, you can forget about them, because they cease to be unborn. You can love the unborn and advocate for them without substantially challenging your own wealth, power, or privilege, without re-imagining social structures, apologizing, or making reparations to anyone. They are, in short, the perfect people to love if you want to claim you love Jesus, but actually dislike people who breathe. Prisoners? Immigrants? The sick? The poor? Widows? Orphans? All the groups that are specifically mentioned in the Bible? They all get thrown under the bus for the unborn.”

And if that's not enough to convince you of the GOP's true intentions, I'll leave you with a short rant by George Carlin...
