Visit to neighbor's tourist spot

As many of you might know from my recent posts, we have been working for the last seven days continuously to bring material up to the farm to build a bathroom.

This video inaugerates the last 2000 pounds, 16 bags of cement.

The horsemen also worked hard on Monday, bringing up 68 loads between 8 horses and finishing the deal.

All the material is now under our house, ready for the maestro to come and start his work.

I was happy to finish up on Monday, and took the chance to travel up the mountain to visit a neighbor on local business. I was amazed at what he had achieved since my last visit.

More and more tourists are coming to visit our mountain, what was once considered dangerous is now opening up to a wider audience. Many people are well underway in their development plans, like my neighbor.

He has created an artificial pond with rental spaces for tourists to stay, and its coming along quite nicely.

A new popular model is called 'glamping', and here that refers to not just the verb but also the structure. And while no two 'glampings' are the same, generally its assumed that its luxurious, has a private bathroom and a good view.

The Andean cloud forest was loving up to its name yesterday, and while we were there a thick fog made everything appear dreamy and secluded.

One of the cabins even had a kitchenette and a rotating wall for additional privacy if required.

The new private glamping he is opening up will cost 250,000 pesos per night for 2 people, about 70 dollars a night.

Apparently there are already people lined up for this weekend.

This part of Colombia has some other advantages, including being generally secluded geographically as well as being far from any red zones.

Colombia reached a peak of urbanization at ~88%, it has the huge primate city of Bogota, plus large regional centers such as Medellín and Cali. Though there has been tourism, it mostly gets shunted to the Carribean hotspots of Cartegena/Santa Marta/Baranquilla, or through thethe so-called 'eje cafetero' of Salento, Aremenia, Quindio.

During and after the pandemic, and continuing to this day we are seeing a reverse of this process. People no longer want to live in primate cities within concrete boxes. They want the open air of our mountains and they are coming, many to stay.

There is a lot of undeveloped space here!

My car door has been acting up, opening when it shouldn't and sticking firm when passengers want to get out. Finally Sunday it opened up on me when I was along going downhill, and broke the pin in the bottom hinge.

I managed to find someone to fix it, I'll get back with more updates about my missing door.

¡Le robaron la puerta al gringo!

There's a bit to fix, but finally I should have some time to dedicate to the car and give it the tender love and care it deserves after so much hard work.

Freedom and Friendship
