Harriet: MJ please pass me the butter?
Micheal: Oh sure, Michael replied.
Harriet: Thank you MJ, Harriet replied. Michael stood up, bidding Harriet goodbye and then left for work.
Harriet: Goodbye MJ.
Harriet was an orphan who was brought up in an orphanage home. But luckily for her she was able to become a good cake baker so she was privilege to leave the orphanage in search for a better life.
She lives with Michael who she likes calling MJ and he was also her best friend.. Michael was working in a company as a personal assistant to the CEO. He was good at his job and his boss liked him a lot. In the space of some months, he was able to secure another apartment for himself leaving Harriet alone.
At work that morning while carrying out his usual duty as a PA, his boss asked him to help him look for a girl he would love to show to his parents as his fiance because his parents were coming over and they won't be happy to see that he was still flirting around with random girls. He promised to pay the girl a good sum of money if she agrees and he was also going to pay Micheal as well if he succeeds in doing the job right.
Michael saw the benefits in taking the offer so he visited Harriet after work that day and laid the proposal before her.
Harriet: I want this money but how can I just go and live with someone I know nothing about.
Michael: I know but you know we need this money and remember you even need it more than I do.
Harriet: Yes, I know if I can get that sum of money I will be able to open my bakery in no time. Fine I will do it but we have to get to know each other first.
Michael: How? The deal is kicking off in two days time!!
Harriet: I know, we will just go on a date just to get to know ourselves.
Michael: Fine, if that's what you want I'll tell him.
Harriet: Yes, that's what I want.
The next day when Michael got to work, immediately his boss came in, he went to meet him.
Michael : Good morning sir, he greeted.
Boss: Good morning. How are you doing Michael?
Michael: I'm fine sir.
Boss: So what about what I asked you to do for me?
Michael: Ah, yes sir, that is why I came immediately I saw you walked in.
Boss: Okay, so what's the update?
Michael: Sir, I've seen a girl, her name is Harriet, she agreed to the proposal but...
Boss: But what?
Michael: She said, she can't just stay with someone she don't know anything about.
Boss: Hmm, okay fine, send me her contact info.
Michael: Okay sir.
Boss: You may go now, and please drop that sir, we are about same age.
Michael: Okay Kelvin.
Boss: I said you should not address me as sir but not also calling me by my first name. Now leave.
Michael still standing waiting for his pay. He immediately received his alert then he left.
Harriet was at home just on the internet searching for Kelvin Clarkson to know what kind of a person the world sees him as. She don't really fancy the internet hence she asked to meet with Kelvin but since she haven't received any calls from him she tried searching the internet. Just as she was still on her research, her phone rang. Looking at the number, it wasn't familiar, she took the phone and accepted the call.
Harriet: Hello, please who I'm I speaking with?
Kelvin: You're speaking with Kelvin, is this Harriet?
Harriet: oh, yeah, this is Harriet.
Kelvin: I understand you must have been waiting for my calls. I heard you said you wanted to go on a date with me first before accepting my proposal fully.
Harriet: Hmm.. amm... Yes, she stuttered.
Kelvin: No problem, let's meet at Royce resort by 7:00pm and don't be late.
Harriet: Okay.
Kelvin was a flirt, he was never serious with any girl. He's the only child of his parents and the both of them love him so much. Kelvin was not ready to settle down yet and his parents knew this about him hence they told him they were coming on a visit.
Kelvin knew his parents were coming because they want him to settle down and that was why he had to look for a girl to act as his fiance.
That evening, Harriet arrived before the time. She waited for about 20 minutes before Kelvin walked in.
Harriet immediately told him, "You're late". Kelvin knew that and he immediately apologized for it. He kept on looking at Harriet because she was a beauty queen.
Kelvin explained her roles to her and she took note to every detail. Kelvin tried to flirt with her but the immediately got irritated and made a grand exit.
After that day, she went to his place. She baked some cupcakes with her. Kelvin was at home because he was also expecting his parents that same day. On getting inside the house, Harriet saw him, they exchanged pleasantries and she gave Kelvin the cake she baked. Yeah, she's good mannered.
She went upstairs took her show, dressed up and settled in. While she was getting ready, kelvin's parents arrived. Kelvin went out to welcome them in. They were really happy to see their son, while exchanging greetings, Kelvin's mother immediately asked after his girlfriend.
Mother: My son, how is your girlfriend, hope she's beautiful?
Father: Darling, stop it, we just got here.
Mother: I know, I'm just curious.
Kelvin: Mum, she's inside and don't worry, you won't be disappointed.
Mother: Now, that's what I'm talking about, she said feeling fulfilled by the response Kelvin gave her.
Before now, Kelvin had already called in one of the best chef in town so getting inside the house and freshening up, they are went to have dinner. At dinner, Harriet was really very happy to see the chef that came. She knew so much about him because she was into the same field but not a professional yet like the chef.
As they were eating, kelvin's mother broke the silence.
Mother: Son, do you know your girlfriend is a beauty queen? I already love her. My dear, you know, let's become BFF(Best friends forever).
Harriet: Wow, really that's really nice of you Mum.
Father: Yeah son, I like her too, you're truly the son of your Father he continued.
Kelvin: (Laughs) I'm happy you guys like her. Holding one of Harriet's hand.
After dinner, Harriet went to the kitchen, feeling really guilty for lying to kelvin's parents that they were in a relationship and they were not, and they were nice to her. Just while she was still feeling guilty, Kelvin walked in.
He was feeling all romantic towards her and tried to kiss her, but she gave him a slap and just then kelvin's mother walked in. She was shocked.
Kelvin: I'm sorry dear, I told you I'm not cheating on you.(He lied so his mother would understand).
On hearing that, the mother immediately understood that he was cheating and that was why Harriet hit him. But she never knew it was all a act. After she left Kelvin was very angry at Harriet and vice versa.
They both went to the room, Harriet couldn't sleep so she went downstairs to relax. Kelvin who was in the bathroom before, coming out and not finding Harriet, he went to look for her. He found her at the balcony. She was still angry at him. Kelvin apologized, and after much apology she accepted and the both went to grab some juice.
While they were strolling round the house, they saw kelvin's parents making out along the corridor. Kelvin was so vexed. His parents were lover birds, they were already grown adults but they still act like teenagers, that was how Kelvin felt and he hated it.
When they saw them, his parents then moved to their room, then in anger Kelvin also went to his room, Harriet followed him but she just kept on laughing, she find it really funny and sweet. When they got to their room, Kelvin slept on the floor while Harriet slept on the bed.
The next morning, Harriet woke up early to join kelvin's mother in the kitchen to prepare dinner. While they were still preparing dinner, kelvin's father went to wake up his son. On getting to his room, he knocked but didn't get any response so he opened the door and went in. He was surprised to see Kelvin lying on the floor. Kelvin immediately got up.
Kelvin: Good morning dad.
Father: Morning Son.
Kelvin: Dad, while didn't you knock before coming in? Harriet might be changing or something.
Father: Oh, I knocked but I didn't get any replies and by the way Harriet is downstairs with your mother preparing breakfast.
Kelvin: Really, okay let me go and take my bath I'll meet you all downstairs. He rushed quickly into the bathroom.
Breakfast was ready and Kelvin was still upstairs, Harriet thought it wise to go check on him. On getting to the room, he was almost ready so she just told him to come down for breakfast. Kelvin then called to her as she was about going out of the room.
Kelvin: Harriet?
Harriet: yes?
Kelvin: Can we act like we are real couple in front of my parents, because they are beginning to suspect us.
Harriet: You mean like having random kisses?
Kelvin: Yes, we need to make it believable don't you think and remember, that's what I'm paying you for, so do your job well. He then walked out.
At breakfast, kelvin's father was feeling more suspicious about the both of them. Kelvin noticed and he immediately told them that Harriet was a virgin. Harriet felt confused, what? Kelvin immediately told her that, dad was wondering why he slept on the floor, so she understood.
Kelvin's mother immediately apologized for last night, his father was not sorry but his mother knew Kelvin don't like it so she apologized. Harriet couldn't stop laughing. After breakfast, they all sat on the couch in the living room chatting. While discussing, his parents were getting all romantic Kelvin couldn't stand them so he dragged Harriet out who was happy about it.
What is your problem, why do you always feel irritated by their behavior? I find it really sweet, like after all these years they are still happily married, Harriet said. Kelvin immediately replied that, "you are not the child who her parents always embarrassed with their teenage behavior".
Harriet concluded by saying, "what can an orphan know about having parents", then she went inside. Kelvin never knew she was an orphan, he felt really bad, so he went to apologize to her. And while they were speaking, kelvin's parents were watching them.
