
These photos were taken in Palmyra, Syria. This ancient city is on the UNESCO’ World Heritage List. About 2000 years ago it was one of the most powerful cities in the world at that time. It was located where the Silk Road met from the east met the caravans from Egypt and Arabia. The architecture combines many different styles from Greek-Roman and that of Persia and Arabia. The ruins we can see today are significant. It was in the year 64BC that Syria was conqured by the Roman Empire.
