Ah, the train, what a great invention! In our imagination, it's inseparably linked to the concept of travel, of loved ones and friends bidding farewell at the train station, of hopes for a new life in some new city, or why not, a simple tourist excursion to explore a place where we've never been.
In truth, it would almost certainly seem that the initial attempts to construct a steam-powered machine for carrying heavy materials took place right in the mines, where a more efficient way than human or animal strength was sought.
During the Industrial Revolution, the train and the railway network marked an incredible leap forward, and the speed of the locomotive symbolized the great economic progress and lifestyle changes that occurred in those decades.
A significant role in this process was played by the Canadian city of Vancouver, founded in 1886 as the terminus of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR), an ambitious transcontinental railway network connecting the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. This made Vancouver, with its vast natural harbor, a pivotal station in the commercial and logistical connection between the eastern and western regions of the country, as well as for international transportation.
The mirror-like silver coin, dedicated to the centenary of the city's founding (1886-1986), is a very well-crafted piece of art. It features a low relief image of a train that appears to be emerging from the background with a rising sun (likely a metaphor for the beginning of a new era of progress) and coming toward us, accompanied by the classic steam from steam engines.
On the reverse side of the coin, as is the case with all Commonwealth countries, we have the effigy of the reigning British monarch, in this case, the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The weight and silver content are somewhat modest: with a diameter of 36 mm and a weight of 23.31 grams, the silver purity is only 0.500.
However, it's a very beautiful coin that I see as collectible, and it also holds a good value in the market.

Ahh, il treno, che grande invenzione, nel nostro immaginario è collegato indissolubilmente al concetto di viaggio, di familiari e amici che si salutano alla stazione ferroviaria, a speranze di una nuova vita in qualche nuova città, o, perchè no, ad una semplice gita turistica per visitare un luogo in cui non siamo mai stati.
In verità sembrerebbe ,quasi certamente, che i primi tentativi di costruire una macchina a vapore per trasportare materiali pesanti siano avvenuti proprio nelle miniere, dove si cercava un modo più efficiente della spinta con solo forza umana o animale.
Durante la Rivoluzione Industriale il treno e la rete ferroviaria segnarono un incredibile passo in avanti, e la velocità della locomotiva simboleggiava il grande progresso in termini economici e di stili di vita che avvennero in quei decenni.
E grande importanza in questo processo lo ebbe la città canadese di Vancouver, fondata nel 1886 come punto di arrivo dell'Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR), un'ambiziosa rete ferroviaria transcontinentale che collegava le coste dell'Atlantico e del Pacifico, e rendendo così la città di Vancouver, con il suo vasto porto naturale, una stazione fondamentale nel collegamento commerciale e logistico tra le regioni orientali e occidentali del paese, e anche il trasporto internazionale.
La moneta d'argento ,a fondo specchio, dedicata al centenario della nascita della città (1886-1986), è un'opera d'arte molto ben realizzata, con il basso rilievo di un treno che, in prospettiva, esce dallo sfondo con un sole che sta sorgendo (probabilmente metafora di una nuova era di progresso che inizi) e viene verso di noi, con il classico fumo dei motori a vapore.
Nel retro della moneta , come tutti i paesi del Commonwealth , abbiamo l'effige del regnante della corona britannica, e quindi la compianta Regina Elisabetta II.
Il peso e il contenuto in argento sono un po' modesti: con un diametro di 36 mm, e un peso di 23,31 grammi, la purezza dell'argento è solo 0.500.
Però è una moneta molto bella che vedo è collezionabile ed ha anche una bella quotazione sul mercato.
