The Pagoda

Although we've been to Brussel so many times - this was the first time that we were there for a long weekend. We went to many familiar places and had a wonderful time.

It was a cloudy but pleasant day when we decided to walk to the Royal Castle. We took the scenic route. We walked through the surrounding woods and discovered beautiful neighbourhoods. At a certain point, we saw a pagoda. A pagoda in Belgium?

The pagoda was commissioned by King Leopold after he visited the Paris World Exhibition and was impressed with what he saw. The 50 metres high japanese tower, was opened to the public in 1905. It is now part of the Museums of the Far East. Unfortunately, it was closed for renovations.

This did not dampened our intrigued of this unique building. We stood there admiring this striking red ornamental building.

The Royal Castle was also closed when we arrived. However, there was a lot more to discover and we were already very impressed by this unexpected find.

This is my entry to the POBphotocontest - Building.
