The other day I was in Barcelona. I'd been walking since morning, visiting all the popular landmarks (more to come on that in another post) and was dying to stop some place to rest my poor little legs. I noticed a stylish place called La Bar. Usually I'd skip any place who call themselves a bar as they normally sell over priced drinks justified by ultra cool surroundings.
Anyway, I took a peek inside and, what the heck?? There were some big washing machines inside And there was a guy doing his laundry!
I love a good whacky café and this was perfect for my pit stop. Turns out La Bar is actually a laundry bar, something which I subsequently noticed on the floor by the front door. I don't know if the Spanish call a cafe a bar, or if the name La Bar is a play on the English words laundry café in Barcelona. Either way, I love this place.
The decor is dominated by the silver and torquise washing machines and tumble dryers as you enter. And the whackiest thing are the socks hanging on the washing line over head! I checked, they're all odd socks, and did not smell. Not that I stuck my nose against them all!!
La Bar was quite a busy place, it's only less than ten minutes walk away from the Familia Sagrada, so it's really central. There were quite a lot of working spaces and a couple of people were working on their laptops. When I wandered up to the mezzanine floor, there was a guy reading up there. There's a good view straight out to the busy street outside, great to watch the world go by. Most of the people were local, they spoke Spanish 😉 and I noticed a couple who came in to do their laundry spoke English, so maybe they were here on holiday? They're weren't any other stupid tourists like me
I grabbed myself a coffee, which to be honest I found a bit weak. I had a couple of coffees in Spain and they were all the same, not sure why... Anyway, the novelty of the place trumped everything, so no complaints there.
