PhotoFeed Contest - Landscape - The Jurassic Coast

Hi everyone, I recently had some down time whilst working down south in Dorset.

The Jurassic coast in Dorset is a stunning area of coastline, huge numbers of people are drawn to the massive limestone cliffs that are of great archeological importance and surrounded by rolling hills, some of which is only accessible by the coastal footpath.

The village of West Lulworth has houses with traditional thatched roofs. The walk from there is about 20 minutes.

A small part the coastline is on an estate and the owner of has added a campsite and parking down near the door and Lulworth Cove.

First area is Stair Hole. The layers of rock type here are amazing to see. The rock has slowly eroded away from the tide over many many years.

The view from the beach of the cove.

The walk is about 10 minutes from the carpark, down hill to the beach and 15 minutes back up the steep incline again, but the views are more than worth it.

'Durdle' literally means a hole that is bored out.
It is possible to swim and/ or float underneath on a kayak, although that might be best at low tide.

Looking at the cliffs from the side, rows of pebbles are within the limestone itself.

Small naturally eroded caves are just about big enough for a human to fit.

The estate doesn't like drones much, even to the point of having plain clothed 'wardens' to keep a look out for anyone flying.

Luckily for us, foreshore is also exposed at low tide, which is owned by the crown estate and is great from a drone operators point of view. This does however lead to a strange conundrum in some cases- here the estate is private and the owner is not legally required to provide access to foreshore. The only place I saw where access wasn't allowed was at cliffs that have eroded so much that it would be unsafe to get down to foreshore and were roped off.

I visited on a day mid week in the afternoon and luckily the crowds were low and hardly anyone exploring the beach so I used the foreshore to the west of the door to take off.
Strangely the whole of the cove to the east is foreshore too, I chose not to fly from there as many people were exploring the rock pools but I will be back for sure!

The walk back to West Lulworth is along the base of a hill instead of using the main coastal path which is a hike up another steep hill!

Bonus screenshot from a video of a random walker posing at the right time. I was following the tops of the cliffs to show the variation in height and they took me by surprise!

Take care everyone.
