Time

Do we take time for granted? I personally believe, it's one of the most important commodities we possess. How much control we have over it, is what we take for granted.

The toughest part of that control, is how much of it; we let it affect our progress in life and are we our own enemy towards it?

I'm one week away from being another year older and as I enter a new week not knowing; when is the next time, I can go workout; has become another stumbling block towards my goals.

The thing with time, is that they say time heals our wounds, they say "Rome wasn't built in a day", give it time, make time and it's a constant manipulation of something that in essences; we have no control of.

Growing up in the 70's and 80's on a block in Brooklyn, New York; Atlantic Avenue. That is between Rockaway Avenue and Eastern Parkway. If you go towards Rockaway Avenue that was more on the Brownsville side and closer to Bedford Stuyvesant and where Biggie Smalls made his name.

On the Eastern Parkway side was going towards Queens was East New York; where car accidents were constant, a few shootouts; but nevertheless, where I hung out with my older uncles and the crew of gals and guys that knew nothing else, but to chill on the streets for hours on end.

In the 70's, I was about 8 years old in 1976. I was pushing the boundaries of hitting the streets hard, but innocent of it all. The streets just called to me and my late mother had to push her way through that and I teetered on starting that life way too early in life and it wasn't until I hit 15 years old, that she lost control of keeping me on the straight and narrow.

I remember my mother, like so many mother's did in the neighborhood calling me to come inside for dinner or for the evening.

I never had a watch until I started working a job at fifteen years old. I worked at my uncles bodega on the East New York side for a few years.

Until that, time was an oblivious thought. How awesome, was it not to worry about the time.

As we get older, the value of time overtakes anything else. You could have all the money in the world, but if you are not around to enjoy it, then it means shit.

Finding that balance of all you want that is good in life, family, a comfortable living (food on the table, a roof over you and your family's heads and good health) and still live long enough to enjoy it; is paramount in my eyes.

I get frustrated, in situations like my current one; where I experienced a big obstacle with the car accident and how it's turned a few things upside down.

But then, what was the most powerful thing that happened for my fiancé Tiffany and me; when the accident happened? We walked away from the accident ALIVE.

We were given more time to continue our journeys. Her and I have the ultimate goal in mind and we can continue that journey. Despite another obstacle, time continues to be on our side.
