#Wednesday Walk - At Brighton Beach

This post is for the #wednesdaywalk challenge and the #makemesmile challenge collaboration. This collaboration initially took place once a month, but due to its popularity, @tattoodjay (of the #wednesdaywalk) and @elizacheng (of #makemesmile) decided to make it a weekly thing.

If you want to know more about the rules, visit this week's post by @tattoodjay where you will find all the rules at the bottom of his post after you've enjoyed his beautiful photos from his walk.

This last weekend, we decided to go to a beach we haven't been to in a very long time. We normally prefer the beaches where we can get away from the main beach and just go for a nice walk, away from the crowd, and enjoy the peace and quiet (besides the sound of the ocean) while walking along the beach.

But seeing that we haven't been at Anstey's Beach for a long time, we decided to go down there. It's a trendy beach in the Bluff, a suburbian area in Durban. Even though it can be pretty busy at times, we sometimes go there as it is a neat and well-maintained beach.

As we arrived there, we could find no parking at Anstay's and for the first time, we decided to drive down further along the beach, towards Brighton Beach.

Although Brighton Beach was also busy, we found parking and decided to spend some time there.

While we were still looking for parking, we drove past what looked like a sandstone rock formation.

Looking back, I looked at the rock formation that caught my attention, where it was now sticking out behind the parked cars.

Going a little closer, I took this photo, standing just above the beach.

There were clearly people sitting in the shade of the rocks, so I didn't want to go down to take photos of it from the beach.

I went back to the road and walked back from where I took this photo.

From this angle, I played around with various shots. Here are some of them...

When we got back home, I did an online search to see if I could find something about the sandstone rock formation and learned that it is now actually a monument (as can be seen on the Google Maps image below. I highlighted the rock with the white circle).

I found the most information about the rock in an online article, titled CAVE ROCK - DURBAN. In another short article about Brighton Beach and Cave Rock, it is said that this is still a favorite surf spot in South Africa.

After taking these shots of the rock, I took quite a few more photos of Brighton Beach and some activities on the beach, but I'll save those for another post.

For now, that's it for today, folks. Thank you for reading my post. I do appreciate it!
