This post is for the #wednesdaywalk challenge and the #makemesmile challenge collaboration. This collaboration initially took place once a month, but due to its popularity, @tattoodjay (of the #wednesdaywalk) and @elizacheng (of #makemesmile) decided to make it a weekly thing.
If you want to know more about the rules, visit this week's post by @tattoodjay where you will find all the rules at the bottom of his post after you've enjoyed his beautiful photos from his walk.
This last weekend we had the start of some cold, wet weather.
According to all the weather forecasts, it would be the first cold weekend where we could start expecting snow in the higher regions of the country and up in the mountains.
We never get the snow down here at the coast, but we can feel the "nip" in the air when the mountains and the higher regions are getting snow...
We've had some really warm days here lately, so we thought the cooler weather would actually be welcome.
And indeed, the cooler weather was nice indeed. My biggest challenge was where and how am I going to take some photos if it was raining too much.
On Sunday we had a bit of a drizzle and we decided to head out towards Umhlanga Rocks and see if I could get some decent photos...
Getting to Umhlanga Rocks it was still raining, and we couldn't get any parking close enough to the beach.
I decided to take a drive down the coastline in Umhlanga and just see if we can see some spots from where we could see the ocean from the car, seeing that we still had some light rain coming down.
First, we found nice parking in a parking area from where I took my first photos.
I liked the view of the wet walkways against the greenery with the ocean just making a misty appearance in the background...
Yet, the ships were still quite visible on the ocean.
I then took a slow drive a little further down and found an open spot where I pulled over for a while.
I just took the next photo with the car window being closed, to get the effect of looking at the ocean through the raindrops on the window.
The next photo was taken from the same spot, but obviously with an open window...lol.
They clearly had quite a lot of rain already in this area, as can be seen with the puddle in the foreground and the raindrops still visible in the water, and some debris that has been washed ashore...
A little further down we found two surfers playing in the surf, having a good time. I was lucky enough to get this photo of the one guy getting a good "ride"...
With that, we called it a day.
But while we were enjoying the coolness of the wet weather with some light rain, little did we know what was waiting for us within the next 24 hours...
On Monday it started raining...and raining...and raining!! We had some heavy downfalls and we got hit by floods and landslides.
Roads got washed away, buildings collapsed and we even had a tanker trailer floating down the Umgeni river, into the ocean, where the surf engulfed it and finally just spat it out on the beach...
I'll share some screenshots from our Whatsapp groups tomorrow...
But for now, we are safe and thank you for reading my post. I do appreciate it!
