Fresh Air Frolics on a Scottish country walk

Hello Hello Hivians

It's Wednesday and that means that it's time to document and post another walk I took in Scotland.

It was a glorious day and off we set up our road. Normally there are queue of cars at the car wash but not today.

image.png

Can you guess one thing that I don't miss about not having a car?

Yes, you guessed it, and that is not having to wash it!!!

image.png

Down the hill and into woods we shall go!

image.png

You might know I live opposite a football ground, but do you know that there is another outdoor sports location that is only a ten-minute walk away from our house?

Welcome to Kirkcaldy Golf Club

Established in 1904 and now home to The Ben Deli I noticed. Funnily enough there is a little cafe called The Bean Deli near the busstop in town where I meet Mrs T after work.

I have never tried so maybe it is time I did. I am sure that is relatively new on the sign, and indeed I can see writing underneath it. Can you make it out?

You can tell that summer is on it's way, the bare naked trees of winter and spring are suddenly developing their green layer of modesty.

image.png

That is quite steep and no way I go up there, although there are a couple of wee deer that we occasionally see on top of the ridge!

image.png

Meanwhile on the left is what is visible of the golf course.

Do you play golf?

I used to play, but I failed to the hit the heights when as a 14 year old I had a full handicap of 14 and actually won an age group contest at the Old Course in St Andrews, the home of golf. In fact due to my AS (Ankylosing Spondylitis) it has been many years since I swung a club in earnest apart from on a pitch and putt course.

image.png

This then is the only green that is visible from the path. A green is what you call the end area which has the flag and hole where you put the ball. Unless you are playing in Africa where we called them browns and they were made of compressed sand, the hazard there being the wavy line imprint of the odd snake manoeuvering itself over the brown!

image.png

We then came to a fork in the path, we always take the right trail.

More importantly though, I said to Mrs T that this is a new sign!

Nonsense says she, that has always been there!

Let me zoom in a wee bit ...

image.png

So the start of the red dashed line is where we were standing and if you follow the blue Tiel Burn to the body of water called Raith Lake, then that is the route we are taking.

One day I shall go left and take you along the Auchertool Walk to Balwearie Castle and then across to The Buffalo Farm. Yes it has real Buffalos, right here in the Kingdom of Fife in Scotland!

image.png

After all this jocularity over the 'Tool Sign it was time to get back onto the Straight and Narrow!

image.png

One thing about all these steep hilly inclines is that the trees grow at odd angles so to speak, and makes your picture look wonky, well that is my excuse and I am sticking to it!

image.png

Of course, it is all fine and dandy when you get up all close and personal!

Make me look like a liar, why don't you 🤣

image.png

Remember that I said we were going to follow the water. Well there you go, proof that we were!

image.png

The level of the water is lower, as while we have not had much sun this spring/summer neither have we had much rain!

image.png

The odd tree ends up in the burn, nature takes no prisoners at times.

image.png

Quite often when you have a pool of water, there is some turbulence upstream.

image.png

And here we have our wee waterfalls.

image.png

The sound of water to me is so peaceful, it does not matter if it is waves crashing on rocks, or cascading waterfalls.

image.png

But all these discarded items that litter our countryside ...

Well I find it all so fluffing tiresome!

image.png

So water is peaceful and of course seeing flowers is beautiful and peaceful too!

image.png

Unless ...

image.png

... fluffing litter louts leave their discarded beer boxes...

Take your litter home ya bawbags!

image.png

At least nature throws decomposing litter into her streams.

image.png

I tell you what, all that litter I do really find tiresome at how destructive we as a species.

We could do well to be like other animals!

image.png

So I followed that gorgeous wee doggy ...

image.png

... and took a breather before we carry on and take you to Raith Lake in Part B.

This concludes Part A and is my post for this week's #wednesdaywalk challenge hosted by @tattoodjay in collaboration with #makemesmile hosted by @elizacheng.

Thanks for visiting and enjoy the rest of your day!
