Warm greetings all! 🙏 💚
Here in Seaview, in Lower Puna, on the far eastern side of the Big Island of Hawai'i, we had very rainy and cloudy weather for a week. After so much rain and clouds, my partner, @kai-sunrise, and I were craving sun and beach, so we decided to take the opportunity to walk to Kehena, a locally beloved black-sand beach that has been clothing-optional since 1955, and is within walking distance from The Sanctuary of The Blue Dragon, where Kaï and I both live.
The walk to Kehena from The Sanctuary takes about an hour. It's great exercise, and a gorgeous landscape the whole way.
This is The Lawn, the park in front of Seaview. On Sunday it's hopping here, with a lots of people, a drum circle, fire spinners, vendors, and lots of other fun stuff. This morning, it was sunny, lovely, and quiet.
The ocean and cliffs peek out from behind the lava fields and trees at various places along the road (The Red Road/Kalapana-Kapoho Road/137), on the way to the beach.
These were taken on the hike down the steep, rocky trail to the beach. The ocean was rough today!
Kehena becomes visible as we go down and around the corner of the trail.
This is our beloved Kehena Beach. We spent a good portion of the this beautiful day here.
On the walk back to The Sanctuary of The Blue Dragon, we found A Surinam cherry bush (Eugenia uniflora) filled with ripe fruit. We nibbled on some there, and we took another handful with us.
Along with the Surinam cherries, we also found some ripe and almost-ripe Noni (Morinda citrifolia). Noni is an exceedingly medicinal plant, and we collect them often to ferment. Noni is a very common plant here along the coast. Sadly I forgot to take photos of the noni tree from whicu we collected these fruit.
After we got home from the beach, we made a yummy meal. A delicious rainbow-colored salad with lettuce, apple, shredded carrot, small sweet peppers (red, yellow, orange), kale sprouts, black olives, and cucumbers. To complement that we made an egg salad on pan-toasted homemade (we didn't make it) sourdough bread. A very satisfying meal indeed, and a good way to end our #WednesdayWalk!
Thank you all so much for allowing me to share more of the beauty and magic from my life and my world with you, and for your continuous appreciation and support! I am deeply grateful! 🙏 💚
