Hey Hive!
We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!
If you missed the last couple of posts, I started a new series where I use this template to draw different characters based on suggestions from my viewers on Twitch!
I found this template on Facebook and had the idea to draw different characters for a potential NFT series in the future, but then the whole NFT thing kinda tanked. But I thought it was still an interesting drawing exercise to do and I wanted to reward my loyal viewers. So instead of drawing characters I already know I thought asking chat would be cool since it would expose me to different characters too!
Believe it or not this is the last character I got requested up till now! So this will probably be the last "Draw a Character" post for a while, at least until I get redeems in chat.
Anyway, this request was made by one of my dear artist friends on Twitch who goes by wolfie_taurus! She previously redeemed a character art as well, when I drew Bakugo from Boku no Hero, and I kinda gave him Popeye arms but she still liked it at least.
And now she requested I draw Dabi from Boku no Hero as well! I still have yet to watch MHA so I'm not very familiar with this character but upon doing some research it seemed like he was the opposite of Bakugo since he has blue fire.

I knew he was a villain or at least an anti-hero since he has that creepy look down. And while I was researching and sketching, chat regaled me on what he's like and apparently he's a bad boi. His outfit seemed pretty simple apart from maybe his flowing coat which I wanted to include even though the template is technically from the waist up.
After finding some reference pics, and with help from the template, this was what I sketched on stream in a few minutes:
Don't mind the little bit of outline I mistakenly did that on the wrong layer.. ;_;
As with all these NFT art pieces I only follow the template for the overall shape and position but I do cater the poses and facial expressions to the character that I'm drawing. I also do a custom background that suits them.
For Dabi, I felt like his deadpan facial expression with the creepy smirk was pretty good so I went with that, and to show off his fire I just drew him with his hands up, kinda like how I drew Bakugo actually. To make it consistent I just gave him Animal Crossing hands since that would be easier.
It seemed pretty simple but I was hoping the fire would compensate for that because I didn't know what else to draw for him. Then it was time to outline!
I outlined everything except his face scars and his stitches since those would look better in their respective colours and not black.
Then it was time to colour! I also have him some simple shadows to give it more depth, especially if I was going to be drawing the fire on his hands.
And this is with all his stitches and piercings. I wanted to make them a little more obvious, and also drew in all the extra lines too since it looks quite obvious on his character.
For the background, I asked wolfie what would look good and she said I could just do one similar to what I did for Bakugo, which was the flame. So I figured I'd just do a blue flame for Dabi to match his power.
So I played around with the flame brush and pen until we end up with this!
I thought it looked pretty good, and glad that wolfie loved it too! This one was simpler compared to the Bakugo one but then again he doesn't have grenade cannon arms so it's understandable. I thought it was pretty accurate already.
Here's the 30 sec timelapse:
If you're interested, I do draw on stream sometimes and you can even claim free artwork if you get enough channel points! We also play lots of interactive games so come hang out with us on my Twitch channel!
