About the picture
Life is full of mazes. Our entire development, from childhood to old age, is usually not exactly straightforward.
This is probably a good thing, because otherwise our lives would be nothing but predictable sequences of events.
I'm currently in what feels like the middle of my life, at the age of 46. Probably pretty normal for my age, I often reflect on the past and marvel at how many crossroads I have already faced on my life's path. Looking back, this path of life was quite an interesting maze, which I would take again at any time, despite the many difficulties and efforts.
Recently I had this very moment when I was sitting in front of a window on a rainy Saturday, with a cup of coffee in my hand, looking out into the wide world. In moments like that, it's not difficult for me to reflect. It then works even more automatically.
One thought led to another until I finally reached deep into my past.
I looked at the many different paths, turnings, wrong ways and hurdles on my way. And suddenly I realized that I wouldn't be who I am today if I hadn't gone through the maze of life the way I did.
My heart warmed and I felt a great thankfulness. It was worth every effort!
Because I liked this rare moment of insight so much, I made a picture out of it.
The scene was modeled in Blender 3D and finished in GIMP.
The textures used are procedural and from own development. The background, is based on an image from a public image source. To create the maze in the head, I used a vector graphic that I had to modify.
Many little details, like the blood, some hair, light and shadow, I painted by hand.
Über das Bild
Das Leben ist voller Irrgärten. Unsere komplette Entwicklung, von Kindesbeinen an, bis ins hohe Alter, verläuft in den seltensten Fällen exakt geradeaus.
Das ist wohl auch gut so, denn ansonsten bestünden unsere Leben nur aus vorhersehbaren Ereignissequenzen.
Ich befinde mich gerade in der gefühlten Mitte meiner Lebenszeit, mit 46 erreichten Lebensjahren. Vermutlich entspricht es meinem Alter, dass ich oft über das Vergangene nachdenke und darüber staune, vor wievielen Kreuzungen ich auf meinem Lebensweg bereits schon stand. Rückblickend betrachtet, war dieser Lebensweg ein recht interessanter Irrgarten, den ich jederzeit, obschon vielerlei Schwierigkeiten und Mühsamkeit, jederzeit wieder gehen würde.
Neulich hatte ich diesen einen Moment, als ich an einem regnerischen Samstag, mit einer Tasse Kaffe in der Hand vor dem Fenster saß und in die weite Welt blickte. In solchen Momenten fällt es mir nicht schwer, in mich zu kehren. Es funktioniert sogar eher automatisch.
Ein Gedanke führte zum Anderen, bis ich schließlich weit in meine Vergangenheit vorgedrungen war.
Ich betrachtete die vielen unterschiedlichen Wege, Abzweigungen, Irrwege und Hürden auf meinen Wegen. Und plötzlich wurde mir bewußt, dass ich ja gar nicht jener wäre, der ich heute bin, wäre ich den Irrgarten des Lebens nicht genauso durchgangen, wie ich es bisher tat.
Mir wurde es warm ums Herz und ich fühlte eine große Dankbarkeit. Es war mir jede Mühe wert!
Weil ich diesen seltenen Moment der Erkenntnis so sehr mochte, machte ich ein Bild daraus.
Das Bild wurde komplett in Blender 3D modelliert und in GIMP fertiggestellt.
Die verwendeten Texturen sind prozedural und aus eigener Entwicklung. Der Hintergrund, basiert auf einem Bild aus einer öffentlichen Bildquelle. Um den Irrgarten im Kopf zu erzeugen, verwendete ich eine Vektor-Grafik, die ich modifizierte.
Viele kleine Details, wie das Blut, ein paar Haare, Licht und Schatten, habe ich von Hand gemalt.
