FreeWrite: The Duckling's Crown

Follow Little Duckling's quest for a crown, learning the value of listening and family guidance along the way.

The Duckling's Crown

Little Ducking was a princess.

She's the most elegant little duck. She followed the queen perfectly. She's the star of the swimming time.

One day, the little duckling thought, she lacked a crown.

After her swimming lesson with her sisters and mother, she adventured to find the best crown.

The little duckling found the patch of flowers. She took a wingful of flowers and connected them with a vine.

The next day, she emerged. Wearing her flowery crown. Pretty. Her chest held high.

As she walked, a flowery scent followed in her wake.

The looks of admiration and envy of her sisters got her excited. She spread her wings wide for admiration.

She insisted on swimming with her crown on. Her mother warned, but she didn't listen.

While she swam, she moved her head left and right, flaunting her crown.

Her crown shook as her head moved. It wasn't long until it finally dropped.

The princess let a cry of despair as her crown drowned. She dove to save it, but it was too late.

Her crown was soggy, wrinkled and its scent disappeared.

Her sisters laughed, and her mother sighed.

The little duckling realized where she was wrong, she swore to listen to her mother's warnings.

The next day she went to make another crown. Taking her sisters with her.

Author Notes

Well, this was embarrassing to write. It's either really good or terrible. I thought of scrapping it midway, but because it's a FreeWrite piece, it's okay to mess it up. So, I wanted to publish it anyway.

This was written as a #FreeWrite piece for 17 Nov 2033 Prompt: "Abnormal duck." The first thing that came to mind after seeing the prompt was the anime Princess Tutu, but I couldn't write something inspired by that in only 5 minutes, so I went literal with the prompt.

What do you think?

Tell me if you think that this story is good. I hope it can work as a Children's Book.
