Is all this really yours? Little Tania asked in awe, Mrs. Kat, you are really a great woman. You are now my role model. As she was glancing through all the awards and medals in the room, her eyes caught a glimpse of a trophy that was kept separately from the others; it was placed inside a show glass.
Tania moved very close to it to see it very well, but it seemed like an ordinary trophy; there was nothing special about it; even the ones that were not inside the glass looked more eloquent and expensive than this. With amazement in her voice, she asked, "Ma'am, why is this one not in the same place with the others?" She replied, "It's because it reminds me of my late father; it was my first award ever, and he guided me through it."
I remember how I almost gave up a few minutes before the final race, as I was losing confidence in my ability to outrun other athletes. However, my dad would not condone my excuses. He became my go-to man, my cheerleader, and my support system, amongst others. He had to skip work to watch me run. That meant so much to me personally and boosted my confidence level going into the race. Finally, when I won, it was natural to dedicate the trophy to him, and when he eventually passed away, his loving memory That is why that trophy has a special place not just in my heart but on my trophy rack."
Having heard her story and reason for the special placement, Tania couldn't agree less with Mrs. Kat that the trophy deserved the distinction it was getting.
